Hi,
I have an EE TV box pro. I do not subscribe to a TalkTalk TV package.
TalkTalk has recently updated the firmware on the box (it has TalkTalk branding) despite it not being owned by TalkTalk. I am now unable to access "Settings" on it. The side menu features the following:

  • Search
  • Home
  • Guide
  • Apps
  • My TV
  • TV Shows

From what I understand, it should also feature Sport and Settings. These are missing.
Why update firmware on boxes you don't own if it removes some of the basic functionality? I'm not asking you to provide a service I don't pay for, I'm just asking you not to come into my home and break stuff.

@Lorrainef , the OP @markbloke says in his original post that Sports was missing. It was also missing on mine.

Hi Mark, could you see the Sports option before the update?

Had some time on my hands this morning so tried a couple of things and the second one worked.

I did a soft /light reset to the box as follows

Light Reset:
  • Unplug the power cable.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable back in.
  • Press and hold the reset button (on the right-hand side).
  • While holding the reset button, press and hold the power button on the front.
  • Release both buttons a few seconds after the BT/EE logo appears.

This rebooted the box and updated the skin to the EE one, with the settings cog restored to the top right corner.

I then checked for updates and it updated to the new look with sports and the cog now positioned in the left hand menu. Still has the EE skin. Don't like the EE colour scheme though, but can live with that now its working.

Hope I don't lose this if the TalkTalk skin gets re-applied!

A shame indeed, but as TalkTalk are no longer a YouView partner it is fortunate for what are effectively third-party users of these boxes that the EE app remains compatible for all. I am surprised that the skin remains.

@ferguson  A shame YouView disbanded the trials and insider group I was part of as this would have been picked up then

I guess because these boxes, strictly speaking, remain the property of EE (but customers sell them on creating a grey market), they probably only tested on their network.

@fr8ys

"Likes" don't seem enough here, well done for this and your ongoing excellent support within the TV section. 🙂

Just seen on the AV forum, someone solved it by doing a maintenance reset to the box.

The thread is here.

Thanks for the explanation. I even tried pressing "down" twice at the bottom of the menu in case the "settings" option was just not visible but no such luck. I'll certainly look in on the thread, glad I'm not the only one anyway.

The update comes from BT, the box owners, and the software comes from YouView. TalkTalk provide nothing to software on EE boxes.

The only thing agreed with YouView is that any box on the TalkTalk network picks up a TalkTalk skin.

It seems to be the skin that is causing the issue as it's affecting anyone with a BT / EE Pro box on a TalkTalk package, including me.

I've written to YouView and pointed out the issue and also referred them to a thread on the AV Forum. They have responded saying it will be passed to the appropriate department, but won't come back to me with any results.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
