For help with your TalkTalk TV box, channels and apps.

I have been paying £5 a month for forever for Talktalk TV, a service I don't ever remember asking for. However, we do not have a talktalk tv box. We bought a Humax many years ago to access Free view and record TV. We bought a Smart TV a few years ago so that has apps etc installed. So what functionality have I been paying for? I feel that if I cancel the TV part of my Broadband/Telephone contract I will not notice amy change in my systems functionality.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hi
No refund would be issued as the TV charge is highlighted on the billing and access to the features such as TV content via my account and other options and discounts were always available.
If the TV charge is not required, then you can contact our Customer Teams and they can remove the option for you after an initial security check with you.
Thanks
Karl.

I was not being aggressive, just explaining the facts.
All you needed to do since this was introduced, @GirlFriday, was contact Talktalk to ask what it was about and request the removal of the charge if you were not using the service.
For something that has been in place this long there is a certain amount of customer responsibility.
It does not mean you cannot ask for a refund in hope, and I wish you all the best with it.

I expect you are just trying to be helpful but your tone of your message is coming across as quite aggressive and has made me feel very uncomfortable. I hope you don't work for Talktalk.
I am not going to bother justifying my actions here as you know nothing about my life. I was hoping to find some useful information here to my questions by posting and Karl answered it.
End of conversation.

@GirlFriday, it was originally @£4.00, so not as much as £5.00 for all that time - only more recently.
There was much activity on here when the charge was first introduced, including discussion of how to get it removed. There was also coverage in the media more widely and here:
If you didn't understand it, why leave it till now to query it? I doubt your request for a refund will get much sympathy. You will have lived through several contracts since you joined the community in 2017 and didn't follow the discussion or query your bill in all that time?
This has been effective since 2019.
It's your responsibility as a customer to scrutinise your contract and read the Ts&Cs.

Hi Karl,
So as I have Now TV and Netflix independantly of Talktalk through my Smart TV and I have never had a tv box from talktalk I have been paying £5 a month for years for absolutely no benefit to me?
Any chance of some sort of refund?
We never asked for TV to be added all those years ago. It just was! And I didn't query it cos I didn't quite understand what the service provided then and could not find a detailed description online about what it provided either.
Bit annoyed about this I might say!

Hi
The TV charge will include access to additional offers from Now TV or Netflix via My Account, in addition to any TV content that is exclusive to TalkTalk via the new 4K TV box.
If you are looking to remove the TV aspect from your package, give our Customer Loyalty teams a call and they can remove this for you and discuss any other account options and deals they may have available for you.
Thanks
Karl.
