Final bill not correct

My contract ended the 24th June. (yesterday)

I'm due to change over to Plusnet tomorrow on the 26th June.

I've been billed for £33.57 for the period of 25 Jun - 24 July (Payment due date: 30th June)

Obviously this is incorrect.

My direct debit with Talktalk was cancelled by me thinking I would change over to Plusnet on the 24th, weird how Talktalk couldn't terminate beforhand and are now in a next billing cycle heh.

I just want out from Talktalk with what I owe and none of this late payment fee toss, or pay the above and I'll get a refund.

Not my fault you cannot bill the last bill correctly.

Hi StrongArm

Any overpayments will be credited back to your account on the 24th of July.

You can request a refund via My Account.

Regards.

After considering the advice given in this thread I decided to pay the full amount owed.

@StrongArm, as previously explained,  anything less than the full amount will trigger late payment fees AUTOMATICALLY.

So you absolutely have to pay the full amount.

There is a standard way to claim back the excess AFTER the NEXT bill has been processed and you do this via My Account. Staff can ensure that a cheque is sent, as you have removed the DD details which would have kept the process simpler.

This is how Talktalk ensures that the correct amount has been paid, and you are not being put through any particular hurdles. It's just a longer process than might be expected, but even with eg utilities you have to pay a full amount and the company assesses the refund retrospectively. It's just annoying that it has to be via My Account instead of being automatically returned to your bank account.

So, pay the full amount now.

Post back later in the month after the next bill comes in if you need help claiming the refund. It won't be a problem getting that sorted out when the time comes.

If I paid how do I get the refund back and do I have to jump through hoops.

I was thinking of making an estimated payment of two days.

@StrongArm, the amount you originally mentioned was £33.57.

Anything less will trigger a late payment demand.

Talktalk's billing system will calculate precisely how much covers the past few days and the NEXT bill will show the refund.

Their systems are automated and deal with millions of customers so anything other than their monthly billing cycle throws a spanner in the works.

You can double check the maths on the NEXT bill to make sure you can see how they calculate it. At that point staff on here can chase up if there are any quibbles.

The amount to pay will be the latest bill amount.

TalkTalk's billing system will then calculate the overpayment based on the actual date of service termination and this will be credited back to you on your next monthly bill.

No internet access now on my TT router, presume the switch over is taking place.

Just waiting for Plusnet to text me to connect their router.

I can make a card payment via my account, I just need TT to tell me the exact amount.

@StrongArm, the bill would have been made up a couple of days ahead so still couldn't have taken into account the date proposed for the switch ahead of that happening.

Hold on a min, My change over should have been on the 24th, plenty of notice given. But I feel TT deliberately put me into the next billing cycle.

Oh and BTW I did do my research Mr know it all.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to get what you want.

It's not a question of the system being "correct" or "incorrect", it's just the way TalkTalk do it. Other companies may operate differently.

If you type something like "final bill" into the search box on this site you'll find the help article here Your final bill - TalkTalk Help & Support which explains the whole process. Not TalkTalk's fault that you didn't bother to do any research and were so quick to cancel your DD.

It's not wrong, @StrongArm.

Talktalk bills the full month ahead, and if you are out of contract for any of that period, those days are at full price.

Only after the switch happens can they be sure exactly when your service ends. So this bill should be paid ahead of the due date to be sure of avoiding late payment fees.

The next bill will show you the overpayment.

The excess is refunded to My Account.

There is a process to reclaim the money from My Account: the simplest method would have been using the DD details. You'll now need to ask for it via cheque.
