Good morning,

What can I set in place as backup for when TalkTalk wi-fi connection fails?  Any suggestions?  I am working from home and it is crucial for my livelihood to have an internet connection during work hours.  Days like today, doesn't happen often, but it is very difficult with the connection dropping constantly and I need a backup.  Hopefully, tomorrow is back to normal.

I eagerly await your recommendations.

It can be really helpful if you borrow a landline handset and plug it in  - call a free phone number perhaps, or call the landline from your own mobile and see if you hear crackling that way around.

Sometimes you can even hear crackling before dialling, just by lifting the receiver, @JohnWes.

If there's noise on the line it can affect your internet. Worth taking these steps.

I had a similar problem the last week of October and phone calls were crashing out as though the phone had been dropped. Thereafter the internet was dropping out or crawling perpetually for several days, but sorted by an engineer at the cabinet. No need for an engineer to my house. Worth your while plugging a phone into that socket.

There's no fallback when things go wrong other than using your own data on a mobile; or taking yourself off to an internet cafe etc. Finally, remember that these residential services are meant for domestic use - the Ts&Cs don't reflect changes in working practices since lockdown. There's Talktalk Business that you could look into as an option sometime if you want the level of reliability that's needed for working a serious amount from home.

I work full-time from home and rarely use my phone.  All my work is done using my wi-fi to receive emails in Outlook, messages in Slack and to connect to various database servers etc. My connection kept dropping today, making it near impossible to complete any tasks timeously.

This is the first time since I joined, almost 2 years ago, that it is this bad.  Is maintenance being done on the line? I live in Redhill, Surrey.  Will it be the same issue tomorrow?  What can I put in place to use, instead?

Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Hi Chris, When I spoke to my daughter earlier on my mobile phone, the call was very broken up.

Hi Chris,  I have never used the landline, that was allocated when I joined TalkTalk, for phone calls .  So, I don't know if there would be noise on it.

Hi Theresa,

Your connection does look very unstable, are you experiencing any problems with your telephone service, any noise on the line?
