Connect another router by cable

Hi. I’d like to run Cat6 cable from my TalkTalk router in the house to a cabin in the garden. Is the best option to attach another router to the cabin end (I have an old one) and if so, how do I set it up?

Yes, you need to modify and/or check settings in both devices.

Other guides are available, some have videos.

Thanks. Pardon my ignorance but how do I do that? Do I need to connect each router and log onto them somehow?

Disable DHCP on the router in the cabin.

Set it to have a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 (as long as no device is currently set to that)

Set the main router DHCP range as follows 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.255

Connect LAN to LAN (yellow sockets)
