Did not want to migrate to TalkTalk from Shell. Fee to leave!

I joined Shell in April as I was planning to transfer to a Social tariff once my welcome voucher and cashback had come through (this took 6 months!).

I did not want to join TalkTalk as they have always been inadequate and difficult to communicate with.

Now I can leave TalkTalk, I am told I have to pay well over £100 to terminate! My contract ends Oct 2025!

How is it legal to charge a customer to leave a contract they did not enter?

I have been paying too much per month for too long.

Let me go!

I would compare it more to when an energy supply company is taken over by another, we have no control over these things sadly.

From the 29th of March our TalkTalk Community will move to peer-to-peer support and the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry we still have plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link here: How to contact TalkTalk Broadband - Help & Support.

I didn't want to leave Shell. They had a social tariff. TalkTalk do not. So the contract isn't exactly like for like, so how is this ok? It's not just a change of name is it. It's a different service, a different product. You wouldn't expect this when getting a car on finance for example; and a few months later the company say they are changing your car but you have to keep on paying ...

Your contract was transferred as it was when TalkTalk took on Shell Energy customers. You will have been liable to fees had you chosen to leave Shell early.

'Customer service' do not understand, care, nor answer your questions. They want to give me £15 credit. Pathetic. It would still be cheaper to pay the exit fee and get a better deal elsewhere. But it wouldn't be right that I pay an exit fee would it?

I chose Shell for a reason. I did not agree to a contract with TalkTalk. How is this hard to understand?

Your contract status remained when the account was moved to us, so if you cancel there is a cancellation fee.
