I was on fiber 35 and was getting about 32gbs, I've just upgraded to Fiber 65 but only get between 38 & 42 GBS, pretty disappointed but is this normal?

Morning,
How has the connection been over the weekend?
Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for the update and I'm glad to hear that the speed has improved. We will check back in with you on Monday to see if the speeds have remained consistent.
Thanks

Thanks for the replacement router which I have tried, I note the results below.
Yesterday was a particularly bad day for my network speed as I was only getting around 25mps. When I received the replacement router I checked the speed and again it was around 25mbs. Swapped the router and the speed was again 25mbs. I did a network check on the TT site and it said there was a problem which needed to be investigated but do a speed test which was again 25mbs. As normally all of my connections are wireless I checked the speed with a cable and it was still 25mbs so I did a network check using the TT site. This went off to do its thing and I made a cup of tea and when I returned it reported that 'something' was wrong that needed their attention but when I checked the speed again I was getting 58mbs! Returning to wifi and I was still getting 58mbs and the same on my phone, amazing. However, half an hour later my LAN connected PC is still getting 58mbs but all of my wifi connected devices are varying between 28 & 32mbs and this is the same with both routers.
I have not changed anything in my house that would effect the wifi signal (I am an electronics engineer) since I built the house 8 years ago so I can see no reason for this variation in speed but there is clearly something that is degrading the reception.
Further investigation today and I find that the wired connection is pretty stable at 55+mbs but I did see 44mbs on one occasion, however the wifi speed, which when I had Fibre35 was unfailingly just over 30mbs on all of my devices, now fluctuates between 20 and 35mbs. I have switched off every other electronic device in the house and this remains the same, I have also run a wifi analyser app and cant see anything that seems to be conflicting particularly. However, that is on 2.4ghz if I switch to 5ghz (which I don't normally use and is on a separate SSID) I get a good and stable 5+mbs connection.
I am totally confused! My guess is that after the TT test found a problem something in the exchange was re-booted or adjusted but I can't get my head around the wifi issue at all.
I'll hang on to the new router for a few days just in case something changes

Hi macgd016,
I've ordered a router, it should be with you within a couple of working days. Please let us know if there's any speed improvement

Hi Chris
I have already done that so many times I have lost count. Although I am convinced the problem is at the exchange Debbie was going to send me a new router to rule that out.

Hi Mac,
Could you switch you router off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes then switch back on and retest. Please let us know if there's any improvement
Thanks
Chris

Hi Debbie
I'm not sure if you are waiting for something from me but I haven't received a router. I now see that TT are recording over 70 to my router but I'm only seeing 30 today

Hi macgd016
I can order the router on 01/03 and we advise to allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.
Will this be ok?
on 09-02-2022 12:55 PM
I guess that's the only way forward but I strongly suspect the problem is elsewhere. Could you please send one to arrive after the 2nd March?

Hi macgd016
I think we should send another router so we can rule this out. The next step after this will be an engineer visit.
Thanks

So what should we do about this?
on 03-02-2022 01:43 PM
Hi macgd016
Yes, the sync speed is 51.9mb. So it is the throughput speed that is varying.
on 03-02-2022 01:42 PM
What I do know though is that we are at the furthest point in the village from the exchange and the fibre cabinet is some way from our house.
on 03-02-2022 01:40 PM
No, on one occasion I rebooted and was getting 28 despite the router supposedly getting 51. I can't find any pattern at all.
Is there any way I can dynamically see what speed the router is getting from the exchange?
on 03-02-2022 01:36 PM
Hi macgd016
You say that the speed can increase to 48mb but can be often be lower. When the speed is lower, if you reboot the router does the speed increase straight away?
I think we should send another router so we can rule this out. The next step after this will be an engineer visit.
Thanks

No sometimes it goes down.
When I first had Fibre 35 and did a speed test it would hit 32 straight away. What I see now is the speed sometimes ramping up from the mid 20's to 40+. I've seen as high as 48 and as low as 25 but the norm is between 32 and 45.
I am confident there is nothing in my house which it influencing this as I have switched all but one device off and still found varying speeds
on 03-02-2022 01:12 PM
Hello,
Can I just confirm, does the speed immediately improve if you reboot the router?
Thanks

I have been sent routers in the past and they don't fix anything, but no not recently Debbie.
on 03-02-2022 12:23 PM
Hi macgd016
Have we recently sent you a replacement router for testing?
Thanks
Debbie

Yes it was
