Moving junction box

Hi all, we're having some custom blinds fitted and need the junction box moving as it's on the window sill. The box connects our wifi and landline to the outside telegraph pole and literally needs the wire moving. Talk Talk have been clueless with their operators not knowing a thing. BT say it's TT we need to contact first and TT will talk to BT. Anyone else had this issue or any ideas how we can go about getting it moved without doing it ourselves, which is not supposed to be the done thing.

@Claris1 not a problem as I have scheduled your appointment on my end and have attached care notes to your account which will serve as proof of the appointment.

Now that this has been sorted, 🙂 Would there be anything else you would like for me to further assist you with apart from what we have discussed?

@Claris1, thank you for this as I do understand and attached notes to your engineer callup which will be able to assist with this.

So, I am now arranging an engineer which will come to your home and move the box. Upon further checking, I can confirm that I managed to find a slot for 13/05/2025 which will be tomorrow between 09:00am - 12:00pm. Sounds fine with you @Claris1?

Hi @sabelo-TT Maybe a bit of confusion by me calling it 'junction box'. The main junction box doesn't need to be moved. It's the smaller one that feeds the wire into it we need moving. We need the box and wire moved from the window sill. I've highlighted the one that needs moving in the attached image. Hopefully makes a bit more sense. Thanks!Box that needs movingBox that needs movingBox that needs movingBox that needs moving

@claris , thank you for this.

In order to help us determine the right engineer needed, we will need to know where you would like to move the master socket to.

Would you like to :

  • Move the master socket within 3 meters to the left or right of its current position

Or would you like to :

  • Move the master socket over 3 meters to the left or right of its current position
  • Change the height of the master socket
  • Move the master socket to a different wall in the same room
  • Move the master socket from one side of the wall to the other
  • Move the master socket to a different room completely

Thank you for confirming this to me @Claris1. I will just need to know one thing before I proceed forward with this.

I need to find out what type of master, or main, telephone socket you have so I can give the correct troubleshooting advice. The master socket will be a white box on a wall, and is where the telephone line connects into your house from outside. Please browse to https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Your-guide-to-main-phone-sockets/ta-p/2205432 - this page shows you images of the different socket types so you can identify which you have.

Alternatively, you can share an image of the master socket to me.

Hi @sabelo-TT We understand there's a cost and that's fine. Could you tell us please how we can go about getting this booked in? Thank you.

Hello there @Claris1

Just wanted to double check on the matter with the moving of equipment to your home. Please note that this will need engineer intervention as it will also entitle a charge.

@Claris1, yes, it would have to be done through Talktalk organising it for you to fix up the appointment with Openreach.

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Engineer-charges/ta-p/2207291

Staff should be able to confirm whether it's the same charge for moving a junction box as a typical ONT / Mastersocket etc
