We need a router that can set up a Guest network separate from our main network, which our current router doesn't support according to what I've read on the forum.

Many thanks

Hi @Patsy20

This is not your thread, plus it is very old. If you want help, you cannot use someone else's thread.

To get help, you must start your own thread. To create your own thread, go to the main page for the board in question & click the "Start a topic" button.

TalkTalk insists on one thread per problem per customer. Please note, TalkTalk makes the rules, not me.

Thanks.

Hi Keith

You are correct, I just did a Factory Reset and the Guest network no longer goes out to the internet while the main

network is fine.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Forest42

From my testing Guest Networks will only work after a factory reset & then only until you next turn the router off for whatever reason. Then, you'd have to do a factory reset again to get it working.

I have sent my full report to @Debbie-TalkTalk

Hi @Forest42

From the testing I have been doing this morning, this feature is unreliable at best. I think that will only last until you next turn the router off for whatever reason. Then, you'd have to do a factory reset again to get it working.

I will update @Debbie-TalkTalk later today will my full report.

I will see what my testing reveals this morning, hold fire on the netsh stuff @Forest42 as I may well need a Wireshark trace instead. I will provide full guidance on doing this.

Hi @Forest42

How are you getting on?

I know our Community Star wanted to do some additional testing for this particular issue to feed back to our Devices Team. Would it be possible to send @KeithFrench some information for testing?

Message 16 of 44

Hi Keith

We decided to do a Factory Reset but took some screen prints of pertinent settings first.

I setup the Guest networks again and everything now works as expected.

The main difference I can see is that from the  TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub 2 menu in Advanced settings,

under the DNS tab we had just the Primary DNS Server set to 192.168.1.1 and after reset

the Primary DNS Server is set to 79.79.79.79 and Secondary DNS Server is set to 79.79.79.80.

So all good now.

Thanks very much for all your help in getting us there.

Hi @Forest42

When I do this tomorrow, without any diagnostic information from you (7-Zip is free), I may only be able to prove why mine works, but not why yours doesn't. That will only leave me with guesswork & I prefer facts.

Hi @Forest42

I need to do some more testing to find out why mine works & yours doesn't. However, I won't have any spare time untill tomorrow now.

Hi @Forest42

Could you zip them up with 7-Zip & password-protect it & then PM me the password. Currently, I doubt if the factory default will help, as the Alexa's work. One other thing you could try when the PC is connected to the guest (works when I try it) is can you ping from the command prompt the DNS server:-

ping 192.168.1.1
