No wi-fi connection outside my home.

I last posted on this subject 18/8/2023 saying I had tried resetting router but this had no effect on wi-fi signal outside my front door.

Can you please send me a new router to comply with my Fibre 65 package in a final attempt to resolve this problem.

I am happy to pay for the router if that is required.

Hi johand,

As martswain has said, the wifi signal from your router will only cover the inside of your home and short distance outside it, usually within your garden depending on the placement of the router (sometimes the signal won't even cover the whole of the house depending on the size of the house, placement of the router and the type of building materials used in the house construction)

It does sound as though you are getting confused between the internet connection when your mobile is connected to your TalkTalk router by wifi and the internet connection provided by your mobile phone network (mobile data).

When you are outside your home your mobile will generally use mobile data to connect to the internet (if enabled on your mobile) but when you return home and your mobile enters wifi range it will generally connect to your home wifi network. This process is pretty much transparent and wouldn't usually be noticed.

If you are no longer able to connect to the internet on your mobile when away from home the the first thing to check is that mobile data is enabled on your mobile. Please note that if you have a mobile phone contract then you will usually have a data allowance per month and going over this will incur a charge

If you need any further assistance please let us know

TT do not provide WiFi away from your home.

You need to make sure your MOBILE NETWORK is switched on if you have a mobile service from TT.

That will give you calls and SMS, if you want internet turn on DATA but be aware of how much is included in your package as excess usage is expensive.

Hi Chris, I think I may be getting confused over this issue - yes, I am a silver surfer. Signal to my android phone drops a few yards from my home. Someone on this forum is saying signal from my router will only operate in my home or short distance away. I have wi-fi network set to talktalk on my android phone and have always got a signal, even 5 miles away.

Could you explain to me what I need to change on my phone to obtain a signal away from home.

Any help gratefully welcome.

@johand a home WiFi system is not designed to cover anything more than a few feet outside of your home.

If you want coverage outside get yourself an all weather WiFi access point, put it on an outside wall, connect a power supply and wire it to your main router with an ethernet cable.

TT do not supply such a solution.

Hi Michelle,  my router is manufactured by SAGEMCOM for Talktalk.  Device ver. FAST5364-3.T8

Serial No. 719804N013031. MAC 8020DA6E12AF and other no. on back of router is 253734241.

I would really like to have a new router even if I have to pay myself.

It's really frustrating having no wi-fi signal to my mobile phone even in the street which I live in. Laptop is not taken out of home so signal ok in home.

Morning,

I'm sorry for the delay. Just to confirm, which router are you currently using? (make and model)

Thanks

Can't see the post from 18/08 on the thread, @johand:

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Broadband/Wi-fi-connection-to-mobile-phone/td-p/2985075

It can't have loaded to the forum, so staff would have been unaware.

When replying, make sure that the blue button changes to pinky purple and check it has loaded on the thread.

Otherwise, it will just linger in "drafts".

Your post is in the queue for attention.
