Old master socket plug?

I recently moved and my internet is due to go live tomorrow, I went to plug in my router (which looks nothing like the ones advertised- mine looks really old) and the hole for the cable into the master socket is much wider than the small plug on the end of my cable?
I thought it was a standard size, so now I’m confused!

Hi hanlewis1990

How are you getting on, do you need me to send a replacement filter?

@hanlewis1990  all TT routers are supplied with a microfilter in the box, so you'll either have to find that if you still have it, wait for @Debbie-TalkTalk to send you one or head off to the likes of Argos or your local computer shop and buy one.

Hi hanlewis1990

There should be a filter in the box with your router.

If there isn't one then I can send you a microfilter.

Thanks

I don’t have a microfilter! I’ve just moved house and in my old property, it had the dual socket so it fit in!

I had no idea what it even was until someone posted a picture of it here…

Hi hanlewis1990

Please can you connect the microfilter to the test socket first and then connect the router.

You need a microfilter, as I mentioned earlier.

Nothing happens, the connections on the inside of the socket don’t line up with the ones on the plug? Still no broadband unfortunately

Do you mean like this?

Hi hanlewis1990

There should be a test socket behind the lower section of the face plate.

If you remove the lower section, can you connect the microfilter and router at the test socket?

Hi it’s in between the 2nd and 3rd on on those lists, my cable has a micro plug but the wall socket is a larger single plug.

Hello,

Just to confirm, which main socket do you have?

Your guide to main phone sockets

Thanks

Makes me feel quite old to realise that there are people who have never known anything but the fancy modern filtered sockets and never had to plug a modem or router into a standard phone socket via a microfilter.

If it’s a single socket you need a microfilter to plug into if first.
