Router DG8401W restarting due to Kernel panic

Regularly the DG8401W router restarts. The router log shows the following issue that correspond

Device reset. Cause System reset due to kernel panic, Terminal OTHER

when I reported this support claimed the reason as that I had more than 5 devices connected! This is ridiculous, the router has 4 LAN ports (all used) so I’m only allowed 1 WiFi device.  It restarted when I was on holiday so very little connected to the router.

The current firmware is 1.05t. I’ve seen another post that appears to have been fixed with a firmware update.

Steve - any advice is IMHO

Hi Steveee

Thanks for your reply.

This issue with Kernel panic is not affecting all customers, only a small number are reporting this issue.

If you do experience any further issues, then please post back on this thread to let us know.

Thanks again.

Seems to be stable, I’ll give it another 24 hours and then close this as answered.

@Debbie-TalkTalk As an aside, why isn’t the firmware automatically updated?

Thanks for that. I can see your firmware upgrade has been applied successfully. I’ll reply in a few days to report back on stability.

Yes this can be fixed, wait for the support team to respond and they should be able to sort this out for you.

From the 29th of March our TalkTalk Community will move to peer-to-peer support and the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry we still have plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link here: How to contact TalkTalk Broadband - Help & Support.
