Router Firmware Update

Hi

Sometime ago I purchased a new Fast 5364 router from TalkTalk.

I later purchased a BT Premium Whole Home Wi-Fi system with a Pack of 3 Discs which worked fine with the router.

Then, following a firmware update, the discs would no longer connect to the router. I contacted BT who said they were aware of the issue and I should contact TalkTalk, which I did. However, TalkTalk was unable to help and I reverted back to an old router, which did work with the discs.

I now understand that TalkTalk has resolved the firmware issue and there is a new version which will work with the discs.

If I leave the Fast 5364 router plugged in overnight, will it automatically be updated to the latest firmware version?

Thanks.

OK thanks. Could you try something, if the disconnections carry on as they have been then the connection should drop again tomorrow night between 10pm-11pm. Could you reboot the router at around 6pm tomorrow night and we'll see if this resets the disconnections or if they continue in the same pattern

No, my old Huawei HG633 router has no problems, just a slower download speed.

OK thanks. There does seem to be some sort of pattern to the disconnections. Do you have the same issue with more than one router?

Hi Chris

The line disconnections may have been for short durations but the router does not come online automatically. I have to physically switch it off and on again for us to be online. Also, as previously mentioned, we use a BT disk system for our wifi as we have a large house and every time the router disconnects I then have to go round rebooting all the BT didsks as well.

I have reconnected the router to the frontplate socket as connecting to the test socket didn't make any difference. We still had disconnections.

Hi Clarence

I've checked the line history, the disconnection duration was

25th 105 seconds

27th 117 seconds

29th 105 seconds

1st    107 seconds

So at the moment the extra micro-filter are unplugged? Is the router now connected to the test socket too?

Hi Clarence,

Thanks for the update. No I've not changed your profile (I couldn't if I wanted too, it's automatically managed by BT DLM system). The profile hasn't been changed by DLM either. Current upstream sync speed is 5.5Mbps but the line test isn't showing upstream sync speeds above 6.3Mbps recently.

Could you see how it goes over the weekend and I'll check in with you again on Monday

Chris

Hi Chris

So far so good but I notice my upload speed has reduced. Was over 7Mbps now under 5Mbps.

Have you adjusted the profile to try and stabilise the connection?

I've taken the filters out so let's see what happens.

BTW the filters were in place while using my old Huawei router for many years without issue.

OK, you shouldn't have micro-filters in the extension sockets as the extensions should be filtered at the master socket. You could try removing the filters and if the disconnections continue try connecting directly to the test socket as this will eliminate your extension sockets and telephones as a potential cause of the issue (this will disconnect the extension socket however)

No, but it is the Master (first) socket. No phone connected to this socket.

We have 2 other sockets in the house with phones connected via filters.

OK thanks, is this the only telephone socket in your home?

No Chris.

I have a Master Socket with separate phone and internet sockets.

The router is plugged in to the internet socket.

Sorry, just to confirm, is it connected to the test socket with the master socket faceplate removed?

Yes, the router is currently connected to the main BT socket.
