It seems my password no longer works when trying to log in as admin on my router. We have had blazing speeds to start with when after years of problems, Openreach installed a new line. The router was great for a few days but started getting unreliable and now my Mac says there's a security issue (apparently there isn't) however when I try to log in as admin, my password is not recognised. Is Talktalk still logged in to my router?
The other problem is the wifi signal now is very weak -I have to stand right in front of it for my mobile phone to get 5 bars

Morning,
Thanks for confirming. I've just posted on your other topic now.

yesterday
How do I get the password as admin? Tried 192.168.1.1 which said the password is on the back of the router. No, it's not
yesterday
New router rec'd and working fine. Thank you. Not the blistering speed it was last week but better than minimum.

Hi @windlesham1
I'm sorry to hear this.
I've ordered you a replacement router, please allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.
Let us know how the connection compares with the new router.
Thanks

So now the router knocked out my Samsung TV when I tried to use iPlayer using the repeaters.Lost all sound and picture. I had to do a factory reset and then retune as BBC channels had disappeared.

Thank you -curiously last time I needed a new router they sent 4. I kid you not! This time I got a lot of tech talk that denied the fault was with the router but nothing had changed when it went nuts. I still cannot log into it though. I think someone else is still logged in to it.
I'd be grateful if you'd ask them bout a new router I am exhausted from 4 hours online with them yesterday. Many thanks

Oh, that is really old now. Let me ask TalkTalk to replace it for you now & then we can pick up any remaining issues after that.
They aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday - Friday) excluding Bank Holidays, but if more urgent you can always try the Service Centre on 0345 172 0088. The posts are responded to in time/date order, oldest first.

The router is an old D-Link-DSL-3782
It threw a few tantrums last week but seems to have improved today. However I cannot log in as admin on 192.168.1.1 and the name and password have not been changed, they are stored on my iMac. It's curious that I have never had a security warning but as you say it's a Mac thing, but I did want to log into the router just to see what was going on. I'm an ex- sound engineer so fairly ok with tech.
Thanks for your earlier reply.

It sounds like several issues here.
Admin password
What make/model of router do you have & what firmware version is it. If it is one of the Sagemcom's, you do not need to actually need to login to find this out. If you just go to the login page, it is shown at the bottom left & most probably ends in V174 or 206.
Security issue
The security issue is covered by my sticky at the top of this board:-
Poor WiFi signal
The weak WiFi signal is possibly down to WiFi interference with which I can provide a lot of help with.
Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.
Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.
In other words, I try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to you to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.
I only send this out to people who request it.
