B & Q Club emails getting blocked

Hi, I used to receive them with no problems but recently I stopped receiving emails from the B & Q Club, address they are being sent from is club@info.diy.com I’ve checked with B & Q Customer support and they confirm that their emails are being blocked (undeliverable) by Talktalk and have suggested I add club@info.diy.com to my safe senders list but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this. They’ve said they’ll then ask their data protection team to see if they can update their system to start sending the emails to me again. I have seen some other references on the Community to B & Q emails being blocked and B & Q were certainly aware of problems sending to Talktalk addresses. Very grateful if this could be reviewed and any changes made to allow these emails to get through please. Many thanks, John.

Hi John

The key bit is to get the email admins for their mail sending service to remove the suppression on sending to your email address.

Hi Gondola, great, thank you for your review and advice, very comprehensive and helpful.

So, I've checked and updated personal info including some notes on this issue in Private notes.

Spam & Trash checked but last email sent from B & Q was last year so nothing there as expected.

I've done a self-send email and all is working fine with no errors etc

I've checked Filter rules, none set up.

So I think I now just need to let B & Q do their thing and start resending emails to me and see what happens. They should let me know when they do so I can track it and advise further if they don't get through.

Many thanks

John

Yes, B&Q FAQ say you should add to a Safe sender list. TalkTalk Mail has no 'safe sender' list; no 'whitelist' either. Safe sender lists can be useful if mail is not fully authenticated and gets dumped into the Spam folder which is therefore the first place to look. B&Q Club mail used to be sent without authentication but that seems to have improved over the year since I last checked.

Prepare for TalkTalk Mail Support by including in your Community Profile, Personal Information (here):

  • Your name, current home 'phone number. An alternative (mobile preferred) contact number. Full address with postcode (Location)
  • Scroll down to Private notes to add email address(es), notes and references etc
  • After checking and updating, Save changes

Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail

Enter your email address and password, select Sign in.

Check the  Inbox first and then check  Spam and  Trash folders for mail messages that may have been diverted from the Inbox. Bear in mind the spam and trash folders normally contain mail not older than 30 days.

Compose and self-send the same mailbox a mail message. Check that the message sends without error, is copied into the Sent objects folder and arrives and stays in the Inbox.  That's to check normal working.

B&Q Mail not reaching the Inbox could mean there's a Filter rule that's diverting, discarding or blocking mail.

  • To check, select the Main Settings menu icon      triple line icon top right on the blue header
(Mobile browser? use the desktop version)
  • Select Settings from the top of the menu
  • Select the inward facing arrowhead by Mail (or Email) in the left side panel
  • Select Filter Rules
If there's no rule defined, that's perfect
  • To delete a Filter rule including any Auto forward
select the Dustbin icon    to the right of the rule
The icon background will turn red
  • To confirm you really want to delete this Filter rule
    Select the blue Delete button

If there are any Filter rules then Delete them all.

Let us know of any error message, or if self-sent mail did not arrive in the Inbox or disappeared from the Inbox.

If your mailbox is working normally and there are no filter rules then TalkTalk will need to know the date and time of the last mail sent from B&Q but it has to be in the 7 days prior to TalkTalk making a check.

We've has this enquiry before and like many others it may just be that B&Q think they're sending mail but they don't see that their mail service provider has suppressed sending because of some undefined issue in getting mail delivered to your mailbox. So what they said about getting their Data Protection team on the case to take off the suppression on sending would usually get mail flowing again.

B&Q do have a good reputation (i.e. not on blacklists) and a strict DMARC pollicy to reject unauthenticated mail (which protects against spam).
