My internet connection symbol is showing 5 bars, so how can this be explained?

Hi @Labrat
I'm glad to hear this and thanks for keeping us updated. Please let us know if anything does change with the speeds or performance of your connection.
Thanks

I've just run the speed tests again with my phone now connected as well.
My first PC is now 55.55 Mbps / 13.68 Mbps
My second is now 69.65 Mbps / 13.74 Mbps
I'm not bothered about my phone because I rarely use it for the internet, but it was 68.82 Mbps. I couldn't see any upload figures because an ad popped up and got it the way, which is why I only ever use my phone online as a last resort.
Even so, that new router has made a colossal difference with three devices connected (I rarely have two PCs running at once, but I still have to set my Samsung TV up. It always selects the picture quality according to the available capacity, so perhaps I'll see an improment on teh iPlayer as well, although to be honest I've never had a problem with it.

I then tried a PC in another room, which when set up with the new router was showing five bar signal strength, yet a speed test showed only 17 Mbps ( I had left the other PC connected). So then I ran it again and received this result.
I haven't yet tried my phone, so I assume it isn't yet connected via the new router.
I suppose the big issue is that of frequent fluctuations, but it's certainly looking very promising so far.

I have to admit that when my connection was first restored with the new router I feared the worst, because the wi-fi signal strength was showing only one bar. However, I thought I'd run a speed test anyway and was amazed to find that it was almost up to full capacity.
p.s. I still find your inability to accept .jpg files most peculiar, although it is easily remedied by simply renaming the file type.

Hello,
The replacement router is on the way and should arrive in the 24-48hrs. Please let us know how your connection compares.
Thanks

Yes please. It sounds as if the router has now become outdated. I have to use wi-fi because with a telephone socket in the hallway, it would be unsafe and unsightly to trail wires along the floor and through doors. I do have an ethernet cable, which I have used in the past for backing up my Humax 2000T (not wi-fi equipped), via the Humax Hub. Whenever I have compared the two there has been very little difference, although with speeds varying so often, I would need to keep comparing them all the time to draw any valid conclusions.

Good morning,
Thanks for confirming. We no longer supply the Huawei router. Would you like us to send a Sagemcom wifi hub instead?

At first I thought there was no identification at all, but I then found it hidden behind the password 'card'.
It is tiny writing, but I think it says DG804TW-2.75
I thought it was considered state-of-the-art at the time it was sent to me, but I had also been told that my previous router should have been good enough. This one made an immediate difference, but it looks as if it is no longer operating consistently.

It is hard to tell from the picture which router that is as TalkTalk have supplied a number of similar looking models. Can you confirm from the label on the back which one it is? I suspect however that it may be a Huawei aka Hub Black, which is no longer in current issue.

Yes, you have.

Morning,
Thanks for the update. Have we ever sent you a replacement router for testing purposes to rule this out?
Thanks

After pulling the mains cable out of the router for a minute or so I plugged it back in and the result was dramatic, in fact this one of the highest speeds I've had on wi-fi. The trouble is that I seem to have to keep doing this re-setting quite frequently. I've never found a wired connection to show any more than a marginal improvement, which is strange. It's impractical for me to have a permanent wired connection because with the only telephone socket being in the hall, it means trailing a long cable across the floor and through doors.
p.s. I've never heard of a forum than won't accept images in .jpg format.

Hi Labrat
I'm sorry to hear this.
Was this a wireless speed test?
Please can you power down the router for a full 30 minutes and then run another speed test?
