My HG 635 router has for several mongths been randomly losing connection every once in a while.

It doesn't show on the router, all lights winking and blinking, but the PC, Laptop and TV all or variously lose connection.

Today that is happening very frequently, four times in the last hour!
furthermore, The internet when available is very ssllooww!

Can TT please advise what can be done?

Thanks.

@Steamywee ,

I wouldnt rely on your old router as if it keeps dropping out it could fail just when you need it.

I found it took less than 20 minutes when I swapped it over and the UI is very easy to update to save time (as you say).

Tip, take a photo of your password label on the back, so you can zoom in and read it easier.

@Steamywee, the older routers don't get firmware updates anymore, so you really do need to swap them ASAP.

As I say, no time or confidence that making changes now before I depart will not add to the problems!

The Router will also have a nice rest since there will be little or no traffic from me, just the control of all "smart" security items, surely it can cope with that!

@Steamywee the problem is that the router you are using is quite old so that could be a huge impact in performance drop.

Thanks for that, I've not changed Routers because of all the smart stuff that Alexa and others control!
Seems it's not that smart!
I know that I can edit the Router name so that all that stuff SHOULD not be aware that there's been any change, but Tech being wh\t it is, I don't trust it to work whilst I'm away and I need things to continue as current for security's sake.

I just want the current set up to stagger along whilst I'm away, not much to ask given I won't be there and there will be little load on the Router!

Now, lets se if I can post this despite several yellow banners declaring it impossible!

Yay! Copy/refresh/paste'npost!

@Steamywee you are currently having issues using a router that we had provided a long time ago; we sent you a Wi-Fi hub router most recently have you plugged that in and checked if the issue is still present? because the router you experiencing issues is quite old.

@Steamywee Hi there, I will have to look into this and advise if we should complete diagnostics
