I connected my new eero for the fibre 900 , and first the update wasn't working but it's now done but the speed it's only just above 500 . 

I run the speed test ,so when is that kicking in ?thanks

Is that wired, or wireless? Or do you mean the actual connection speed shown on the eero app?
