Cityfix pestering again to upgrade to fibre 150 - can I stay on fibre 35.

I had an email on 9th October saying you would be upgrading me to full fibre and you would be in touch soon.   Today (8th)  I had a text message from Cityfibre saying they were coming to install fibre but my email address was wrong and asking me to check it so they could contact me - and to do so by tomorrow (9th) !  I have had the address (tiscali) for ever so no idea what that is all about - I do not want them turning up on my doorstep without warning!

However - I have been on this forum before - I do NOT want the upgrade until I absolutely have to have it.     I am on fibre 35 with landline phone.   I have been assured by TalkTalk that landlines will continue to work at least next year.  I have also been told I can continue with fibre 35 (and landline).  My contract ends early February so I am concerned about this being available.

Today, I phoned the TalkTalk  number (sales I think) which was on your full fibre email.    Communication was difficult - the gentleman kept telling me how digital voice worked (I know that).  I wanted to know if I would be able to continue with fibre 35 and phone package after February - which is not long away.  He said it would not be available but I could be moved to fibre 65.

Will you please confirm.

1.  I do not have to go onto fibre 150 now (I have a telephone number to cancel the installation if that is what I have to do).   It is extremely inconvenient and difficult at the moment anyway.

2.  What will happen in February - i.e. will you warn me of contract end and presumable give me options.

3.  Will I still be able to continue with fibre 35 and phone as now, or will I be offered fibre 65 and phone.  (No doubt it will cost a fair bit more).   Basically will fibre 65 work in the same manner (i.e. broadbrand router where it is now,  i.e. using the phone line  which is plugged into master socket) - router is actually on the end of of an extension lead and works well.    I was told I would need a new router but assume nothing else would need to be changed in my setup?

4. If not, will I have (be able) to upgrade to fibre 150 (with digital voice), at the time and will installation still be free -  but what is the cost of package itself.

I see others are asking about keeping fibre 35 anyway, so any help will be appreciated.

I don't know if this is the right forum but hopefully this gets answered by the right people!

I realise I will have to bite the bullet at some point, but not now thank you!

Hi

Fibre 65 is FTTC, same as Fibre 35, however there is also a Full Fibre 65 (FTTC 65).

Thank you.  Bit confused - I thought fibre 65 was FTTC the same as fibre 35 (just faster), in which case might as well stay with fibre 35 and move to full fibre at some point.        I only want broadband and phone - I do not want TV or anything, so just need the easiest,  best and most economic option for me - I will give it some thought.

I still do not understand why Cityfix are unable to contact me via email though.

Hi @GBy123

You don't have to move to Full Fibre 150 at the moment.

In February your contract will end and any discounts you have, and you will be on a rolling contract unless you renew or negotiate any offers.

You can remain on fibre 35, however fibre 65 is the same type of service, unless they specifically mention Full Fibre 65 which is FTTP.

You can upgrade to Full Fibre 150 in the future, but I cannot say if the free installation will apply or change, If I was certain of the future, I'd be putting my lottery on tonight 🙂

If you decide to leave TalkTalk and try another supplier in the future, Openreach may mark your exchange as a STOP SELL exchange - which means that copper line services would no longer be available to you.  We are seeing this more and more these days as Openreach are progressing towards Full Fibre for all installations.

There will come a time in the future, not sure when, but Openreach will end all copper line services and you would then have to migrate or upgrade to a full fibre service.

Thanks

Karl.
