Digital Voice

Hi,

I was going to post this in the Home Phone section. But it all seems to be about the old landlines on there. My problem is about Digital Voice (VOIP).  So forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place. Feel free to move my post to Home Phone if that is where it should be.

I'm really hoping I've already fixed the problem. But just in case this problem continues to happen I thought I'd post now.

A few days ago I tried to use the Digital Voice (VOIP) house phone, but it wouldn't work. It just made a noise instead of dialling out. I tried phoning the house phone number from my mobile but all I got was something like... "This person can not take your call right now". The broadband was working fine. so I couldn't understand why the phone wasn't working. However, Just in case I rebooted the router. And sure enough the phone was working again. That was until about an hour ago. Same Thing! Once again, I rebooted the router (Sagemcom Fast 5464) and the phone is back again. But why has this started to happen now. We've never had any problems with our Digital Voice before. Could it be the weather. We haven't had any thunder storms. But the first day we lost Digital Voice our lights were flickering. Up the road had no electricity. And  there had been thunderstorms across the country. Yesterday evening we didn't have any thunder storms. But we did have a lot of rain. I'm just trying to think why this has happened twice in just a few days. Knowing we have never had any problems with Digital Voice (VOIP) up until now. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it won't happen again.

Thanks In Advance!

Hi

Do keep an eye on things and report back if it fails again.  As to Wi-Fi Optimisation, this is a business decision not to allow us to turn this off, so we are unable to override this.

Thanks

Karl.

Hi Michelle,

All wires are plugged in nice and snug. No one ever touches the router. Apart from me carefully dusting it. I can't see how anything could have gone wrong with it. Why no Wifi Optimisation? This is the kind of thing that gets people moving to other ISPs.

Thanks!

Nita

Hello,

That's correct, we can no longer switch the wifi optimisation off. Is the phone connected securely in the voice port at the back of the router? Hopefully it won't happen again but if it does then please let us know.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am really hoping it wont happen again. But if it does I guess I'd have no choice but to replace the router. I'm just a little worried about that. Because on this router I've had Wifi Optimisation turned OFF. And I'm sure I remember something about that not being something you can do these days. I would hate to have to go back to having channels changing by themselves again. So fingers crossed my digital voice behaves itself.

Thank You!

Nita

Good afternoon,

I'm sorry to hear this. If this does happen again then I think we should replace the router to rule this out, would this be ok?

Thanks

Michelle
