Hi there. My router is based in my livingroom, the kids tablet and tv is working fine upstairs but for almost 3 days the WiFi in the livingroom has been working max 5 minutes at a time then will not work for hours. I have an eero 6 plus, I have spoken to someone on live chat today who said everything looked good from there end so I can’t understand why only the tv in the same room as the router won’t work. They have sent out another eero to place somewhere else to see if that helps, any other suggestions? Thanks

If it is the eero Pro 6, which 5GHz band is it connected to? What channels are in use, to find this out, in the app, go to:-

  1. Tap the appropriate eero mesh node (Gateway or Extenders) that your device is connected to or is trying to connect to.

  2. Then tap on that eero’s Wi-Fi Radio analytics page.

Tap on the appropriate 5GHz Wi-Fi band at the top of the page (5GHz Low & 5GHz High) and the channel number etc is displayed near the bottom of the page. You may have to scroll down the screen to see all of this.

If you only have the one eero Pro 6, then as the WiFi is OK upstairs, I doubt if the router is faulty in the living room.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to you to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

Whilst the eero is supposed to manage Wi-Fi interference, if this is very bad, particularly in the 2.4GHz band, then it cannot do anything about it, no router can. The same goes for any router at that point. Other things that may then need to be investigated are its location within your property and the WiFi bands that you use.
