Problems with Xbox app on PC

Title. Recently switched from the now defunct Zybre to TalkTalk full fibre, and everything works fine with the exception of the Xbox app on my PC which seems to be reluctant to download anything - it'll do short bursts of activity for maybe a minute or so, and then stop downloading for a couple of minutes, then resume.

I still have an ADSL connection (via NowTV) that I kept as a backup due to the somewhat unreliable service I got from Zybre, and if I switch back to that then the Xbox app works fine, and if I use a VPN with the TalkTalk connection it also works without issue, so I'm somewhat at a loss; it's almost like TalkTalk are throttling me! Any suggestions would be gratefully received...

Hi NorbertP,

We ask that you switch the ONT and eero off for 30 minutes as this forces the start of a new internet session were as just rebooting usually results in it picking up the same Internet session. Could you give it a try and let us know how you get on

Wired (via a switch because shipping a router with only a single free ethernet port is apparently perfectly acceptable), and I've done several power cycles of both the router and the ONT. Admittedly I haven't powered them off for 30 minutes but I can think of no legitimate reason why that would be any different from a simple power cycle - it's not like they're analogue devices that may restart in an unknown state if you turn them back on too quickly!

As noted, the connection itself is fine, every other piece of software behaves as expected, and connecting via a VPN "fixes" the issue, so it's not a hardware fault or a problem my end. Sadly as the eero router is complete garbage I can't really do much in the way of diagnostics as I refuse to pay for a subscription to access the "advanced" features (i.e. the ones that have come for free as standard on every router I've owned in the past two decades), and using an app rather than a web interface or SSHing into a console is just irritating.

Hello,

Is the PC connected wired or wireless? Have you tried powering down the router for a full 30 minutes and then retested this again?

Thanks
