Can someone explain to me how this fibre thing works. I have a square white box on the wall into which my router and landline plugs in. Am I to understand that this is a copper line connection? My landline is due to be disconnected on 18th March (I have taken out a new contract for fibre 150 data only) and I have been advised to make sure that the router is connected to the fibre connection box on the wall. In this email they showed pictures of two boxes. one white and one black. I have no such box on any wall in my home. Now, I am not au fait with all things technical but this says to me I do not have full fibre in my home. What I am concerned about is that come 18th March when the landline is disconnected I will also be disconnected from the internet. Am I correct or worrying unnecessarily? Any thoughts from anyone?

Hi @Purdie1
My colleague has advised that they have attempted to contact you and have left you a voicemail.
Thanks

The service in the house, which you have been currently using, is Part-Fibre, not 'Full Fibre'
The one in the shed, is different, it is Full Fibre, but is not complete yet.
And, ideally, the one which is in the shed, should be moved within the house.
It looks like they have 7 days to complete all this.
Also the one which is currently in the shed, should completely replace, the one which is in the house.
Edit: Oh, I almost forgot, if you will still require phone service,
you need to remind them as soon as you can, that the new service should not be 'data only', and that there has been a mistake.

Hi Purdie1
Our order management team have advised that this is a fault and we will need to arrange an engineer visit.
I have passed this over to our Faults Team and asked them to make contact with you to arrange this visit.
Thanks
Debbie

Thanks Bill....you have confirmed exactly what I am worried about. I have had a fibre package for years without any fibre in the house. How ridiculous is that! Let's hope TT can sort this out, otherwise I am off somewhere else!

Hi @Purdie1
I'm just checking this with our order management team and I will post back here as soon as I have more information.
Thanks
Debbie

Well @Purdie1 ,
You have old copper broadband inside your house, with the white Master socket
and you have the newer Full Fibre broadband in your shed with the black ONT, which is currently unfinished.
You will certainly need the engineer to come and somehow finish what was left unfinished in 2019
I am wondering, won't you need a phone connection after this all over?
(Because you said that you ordered 'data only'. i.e. no phone connection.)

Nothing is connected to the box in the shed

I found the same ONT in this article which may be of help to the support team -

OK, in your shed? Very odd! Thanks for the added information. Let's see what the support team have to advise.

If you trace the wire back does it go to the box you mentioned in your garage?

I have had no installation since taking out fill fibre data only. However, if my memory serves me, in 2019 someone did visit and dug up my front garden and installed a small box thing which is in my outside shed, not connected to anything. Could this be why TalkTalk thinks I have full fibre connected? Told you, I am not tech savvy!

OK, well just to be clear, have you had any additional installation done since you agreed the Full Fibre data only package? Can you perhaps post a picture of the existing box you mention?

Thanks for replying to my query. Problem is, every time I speak to someone on the phone, which in itself takes a lot of patience, I've been told that an engineer doesn't need to visit, I don't need any new equipment and when the copper line is disconnected on 18th March the router will switch to fibre so everything will be fine. Am I being led down the garden path? Certainly feels like it! I am slowly losing my mind!

If you would like the support team here to check on this for you make sure that your personal details including TalkTalk phone number or account number are complete on your community profile (click here) so that they can link your forum identity with your account and then wait for them to respond.

Well it looks like we cross posted no need for the condescending tone in your reply to me!
The question was -
"Can someone explain to me how this fibre thing works"
I dint mind taking the time to explain it a little more fully than you did 😉

When the engineer visits he/she will install a new box on the outside wall called the Termination point (see diagram at bottom) and an ONT on the inside wall, the ONT will look something like the box below but the names on the lights may differ slightly, this is where the fibre cable leaves the termination point and goes through a hole drilled in the wall and into the ONT (green connector) the other two cables are one Ethernet which goes to your router and power supply.
Watch the video below it shows the full fibre install -

They will come and connect all the necessary boxes as part of the Full Fibre installation. The square white box you mention is indeed a copper termination point and will become redundant once the new service is installed.
