I have decided to go to BT as they offer a social broadband package that talktalk does not. However I have just received an email from talktalk stating that I will be in breach of contract if I leave and the fee will be £216.
According to my account information, My contract ended in 20/04/22. Can somone at talktalk tell me how you wish to charge me £216 for leaving?

When you cancelled did you speak to the cancellations team? Did they offer to waive the fee, the contract was renewed in January 2023 till 2025.

Just an hour or so ago, @Llinx, you posted that you had sorted out a new contract a couple of months ago.
Therefore you are now saddled with massive early termination fees, as you are well past the cooling off period and most of the contract period lay ahead:
