Connection timed out

My router dashboard says my internet is on and my devices are connected but when I try to search, the progress bar reaches 10%ish and stops.

After about 10-15 secs I get a message saying connection timed out.

I've tried four different browsers and different devices without success.

Could it be my router settings?

I've had internet anout four weeks but can't use it . . .

Hey there, @tubby885. I must apologize for the delay in solving your issue. Now @Gliwmaeden2 has clarified that you have connection but unable to connect successfully to a certain websit. We can try two things, but first I will need to know are you able to access another website?

I will need us to try and use these two things to help solve this.

  1.  Can you please try clearing all your cache and cookies on your browser and restart your device to try for a new connection.
  2. If 1 fails, we will then try to see if the website you want to access.

I fear they probably will, just persevere.

And @Gliwmaeden2 I am not sure what you mean, you can connect a device by WiFi to router, but it is not much use if that in turn is not connecting to the internet?

Thanks for the advice.Talktalk recommend raising a complaint via chat so i'll do it tomorrow.

Just hope they don't ask me to go through all the checks again for the umpteenth time . . .

The diagnosis @KeithFrench reached in the previous thread was:

"Having done some diagnostics with @tubby885 I have cleared up all the confusion. The customer is connected to the WiFi network OK, but whenever a website is accessed in the browser, a connection timed out message is received. I have asked one of TalkTalk's support team to pick up your thread and investigate it for you."

Staff haven't made headway but if you are putting in a complaint, @tubby885, it's important to distinguish that there appears to be a connection but it's not been usable so far.

Gliwmaeden2, a fellow customer.

No internet at all? In which case I would go straight to the Complaints link at the bottom of the page.

You can, but not until you have given them a reasonable time to resolve it. And personally, I am not at all clear what the issue is.

They gave up on me 10hrs ago.Their last message was a standard reply they send when they haven't got a clue what to do . . .

Can I leave Talktalk without a penalty because I'm paying for a service I'm not receiving?

I've done all those things.

Do I need a new router?

Reasons Your Internet Keeps timing out and How to Fix Them

- Placing your router in an open, central area allows the Wi-Fi signals to freely connect to devices. When you place your router in an enclosed space, the walls block those signals.

- Not every device needs to be connected to your home internet at all times, so be sure to disconnect unused devices for better connection.

- Upgrading your router and its software will show a noticeable improvement in how fast and reliable your internet connection can be.
