A couple of weeks ago had full fibre installed. After a bit of a rocky start most things are nice and fast however every so often certain sites just stop working; the worst by far is one i use for work. Works for a few minutes then drops. Had firmware updated etc but no luck. Checked the log today and went back to when I was working.
Hundreds of these messages about DNS name resolution failures. This worked relatively well prior to the "upgrade" and there are A LOT of other people using these work servers successfully so they are not the problem.
Wondering if there's some DNS change that can be made or if there's a bigger issue here somewhere? Note that I'm getting these DNS name resolution failures on other sites too but this is by far the most common.

Looks like we've got to the bottom of the problem. The CityFibre engineer that came out this time immediately on being told that it was high download low upload said it was a damaged connector causing loss from the ONT out. Checked this and he replaced the bad connector - now up to a heady 150mbps upload!
Thanks for the help on this everyone 🙂

OK thanks. I'll pass that on too. Hopefully you'll hear from the sometime today but I can't say exactly unfortunately

Managed to plug my work laptop directly into the ONT and connect. Speedtest shows download still high but upload is getting literally zero, so I think something may be interfering with that. Running other work apps shows the same cripplingly slow connection as previously. When I can expect to hear from your Future Fiber team?

It's always worth testing connected directly to the ONT just to rule out any issues with the eero. I'll raise this to our Future Fibre team for further investigation

I did try but the connection to my LAN port didn't appear to be getting anything at all. I thought the point of the eero speed test was to bypass any potential lan issues?
on 19-01-2024 11:28 AM
OK thanks. And you've tried connecting a device directly to the ONT, bypassing the eero?

Have done the 30 minute reset and were at 264 kbps now - so no appreciable impact.

OK thanks

Could you switch the ONT off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes then switch back on and retest. Please let us know how you get on
Did that yesterday with Michelle, but I'll give it another try.

Given that the Eero shows the upload is slow, the problem has to be on the ONT or outside the house? Also as it's just Upload thats being brought near zero it'd suggest that the problem is either with something that's receiving the signal from my house or boosting it further onward.
With that in mind does the ONT need replacing or something further from the house switching to another port/line?

Did that and now getting 591 kbps upload; so it's 'better' than before but still very poor.

Hi,
Ok, could you try powering down the ONT and the eero for a full 30 minutes and then run another speed test please? Just to see if this resets the throughput speeds that you are currently seeing.
Thanks

Not sure how to do this. I've tried connecting my laptop previously to the ONT but for some reason I cant get any connection there.

Morning,
Would it be possible to run a speed test directly at the ONT with the eero removed so we can see if the speeds are also low in this set up please as this will rule out the eero?

Worse; speedtest.net shows upload of 0.03 and eero speedtest shows 148kbps. If the eero is showing that gotta be a line problem?

Morning,
I'm sorry to hear this. Is this still happening?

Getting a terrible speed test result for upload again. Eero speedtest shows upload of 519 kbps. 😞 Been like this for about 1 hour.

Good morning,
I'm glad to hear this and we'll check back in with you in a few days just to make sure that everything has remained consistent.
Thanks
