Hi, my TT Sagemcom router died last week, and has been replaced by TT with an identical new one.
With the old router, the download speed I was getting was always above 70Mb/s, sometimes as high as 75Mb/s - using the Ookla speed test. But with the new router, the speed has dropped to no more than 67Mb/s. It's been like this for 5 days now.
Will it eventually return to the previous levels of its own accord, or does TalkTalk need to do something to speed it back up again?

Hi Xplorer, I get what you're saying, but this morning the sync speed is showing as 74.7 Mb/s, and it is generally in that ballpark. So my router throughput at 66.5Mb/s seems rather low to me - don't you agree?

If the connection is still in sync at 70.9Mbps, as reported by Chris-TalkTalk yesterday, then that download speed is to be expected. [Download speed is lower than sync speed due to overheads.]
Only if the connection is re-established at a higher sync speed would a higher download speed be possible, hence an earlier suggestion about disconnecting for 30 minutes, which you may already have tried without any improvement.
It may just be that the connection sync speed is lower with the replacement modem/router compared to the previous one. I have seen a difference of about 4Mbps between two modem/routers of the same make/model.

Hi Chris,
Just checked speed this morning. Same old 66.5Mb/s.

No, I'm not. But the Huawei router was, and it wasn't running slow.

OK thanks, are you using the cable provided with the new router?

It's the only telephone socket in the house. We don't have a landline phone at all, we only use mobiles.

Do you have any extension sockets or is that the only telephone socket in your home?

Hi Chris,
No, it's just in the regular router socket. It's an NTE 5C Mk4 Master Socket, and there's no phone connected at all - and no microfilter either.

Hi Chris, I have the new Sagemcom router connected.
By 'sync speed' I presume you mean the speed listed in the router's admin page?
I've seen that reporting 73Mb/s or more, but the actual download speed as tested either using the TT or Ookla speed tests still maxes out at 66-67Mb/s.
I'm not at home so I can't run an actual speed test for you.
on 01-11-2024 11:24 AM
OK thanks. Line test is passing and your current sync speed is 70.9Mbps. Which router do you currently have connected?

Hi Chris,
Still got the same problem.
While I was waiting for the engineer to come, I hooked up my old Huawei router. It was happily singing along at 70+ Mb/s. It's just the new Sagemcom that's running slow!
Here's a screengrab of my broadband speed history. You can see the change on the day the router was changed:

Hi sajid, that doesn't seem to have made any difference. Any thoughts on what I should do next?
on 31-10-2024 07:43 PM
Thanks, I'll try that this evening.

Switch off your router for a good 30 minutes and then on again to refresh the session to the cabinet, this should improve your speed.
