Hi all
I have been having issues with my connection recently, mainly slower speeds (still hitting 30mbs) and disconnects.
I have just spent 40 minutes on chat with the tech team trying to nail it down, but no errors with the line showing, suggested it may be wiring in my house but nothing here has recently changed.
I was just looking at my router setting and noticed some strange behaviur in the logs. Lots of DNS name resolution failures during the night when there would be no acces on my connection.
Anyone have a clue whats going on or if this could be the cause of my instability?
Thanks

Hi mitchgixer6,
Glad to hear it's more stable, and yes the 15 minute lease time is normal

Hi there
I'm still monitoring the connection but it does seem to be much more stable now. To be honest I'm disappointed that I've had to go down the route of paying for new equipment to try and sort this issue
Can you tell me if the 15 minute DHCP lease for the Talk Talk servers is normal?

Morning,
I'm sorry to hear this and thanks for the update. Is the connection still ok with the alternative router since your last post?
Thanks

The DHCP requests you have posted are pointing to TalkTalk DNS servers
on 25-09-2022 11:03 AM
Exactly my predicament!
I don't have much IT knowledge but I have been reading up recently especially when setting up my new router etc.
Considering I'm getting consistent dropouts even when using different equipment (Inc 2 TT Sagem routers) I can only presume my problem lies with Talk Talks equipment somewhere. Especially when there seems to be lots of other users experiencing the same problem....
on 25-09-2022 10:59 AM
OK, call me puzzled??
on 25-09-2022 10:36 AM
Yes, I'm currently set up using Cloudflare, although trying this with the TT router didn't help with the DNS resolution errors I was seeing.
Since switching to the TP Link router I have zero DNS errors.
on 25-09-2022 10:30 AM
Ah, OK. Have you tried using third-party DNS servers?
on 25-09-2022 10:29 AM
Thanks for the reply Ferguson
The line isn't under investigation. I had an engineer visit yesterday who confirmed no issues with the line and virtually no errors or packet loss.
on 25-09-2022 10:28 AM
@mitchgixer6 As the line is under investigation by Openreach at the moment swapping out equipment may be unlikely to solve the issue.
on 25-09-2022 09:56 AM
I'm hoping someone with a higher technical knowledge than me can help with this update
I recently swapped out the TT router for 3rd party items. A Zyxel modem in bridge mode connected to a TP link router. Disconnects are still happening even after the OR engineer yesterday tested the line again and could find no faults.
The logging on the TP link router is showing very frequent DHCP lease renewals from the TT servers. Seems to be renewing every 7 minutes when the lease time given in the logs is set to 900 (minutes?). It seems the dropouts happen around the same time as these DHCP requests. Could the TT servers be to blame here for my dropouts?

My connection is also slowing down and getting me disconnected from online games for the past 3 days. When I check the connection shows fine but not enough strong speed for game I guess. I think this is not a punctual issue but a more general problem. is worth checking something else than a specific user.

Hi mitchgixer6
I've checked the connection stats and the line test is detecting another line fault.
I have passed this back to Openreach to be investigated by a line engineer.
I will monitor for further updates from Openreach.
Thanks

Hi there
There were still some drop outs but not as many as there were on Tuesday. Hopefully won't see any today.....
on 22-09-2022 06:21 AM
Hi mitchgixer6
How was the connection yesterday?
on 21-09-2022 10:22 AM
Hi Chris
Yes the Enginner re terminated my connection at both ends and the faults he was seeing were cleared.
I am however still seeing some disconnects, 3 so far this morning, buthopefully these might die down in the next 48 hours.

Hi
Openreach have cleared a fault with external cables. Monitor for the next day or two and let us know how things are.
Thanks
Karl.
