I'm not longer able to access my Pipex email using Thunderbird on Mac. Have changed the settings as advised in recent emails, but no success. Please advise what I need to do - am getting message 'Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server mail.talktalk.net responded: [AUTH] Unsupported authentication mechanism.'

Hi andrewe, I've added your mailbox to those to be restored to normal function. Please allow 48 hours for the change to complete.

Please can I have full access restored to the mailbox for my Pipex email? It seems to have stopped working sometime last Thursday afternoon.
Thanks

I've removed the image as it was showing your email address.
Yes, of course authentication will fail. The access to the mailbox has been switched off. I'm helping you get the settings corrected so that when TalkTalk next authorise a safety trained climber up the ladder to switch on device access to the mailbox then the authentication will be accepted.
The next step is to request TalkTalk Support to have full access restored for the email address mailbox in your Community profile Private notes.
TalkTalk Support will respond here and access returned within a couple of days after that. Until then use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an up to date Internet browser to keep in touch with email contacts.

Hi andrewe
First the email software and operating systems you've mentioned are all capable of supporting secure mail. So that's positive.
But.
You're showing me a talktalk incoming mail server setup on Thunderbird for the pipex email as a POP3 mail account.
That requires port 995 for incoming mail. i.e. the Thunderbird default setting. Other than that the setup for incoming mail is good.
In the list of outgoing SMTP servers you appear to have the pipex server still using the legacy host name for the pipex domain.
What I recommend is that you set up a new outgoing SMTP server for the pipex email account and associate that with the pipex email because it has to be authenticated with the pipex account User Name (full pipex email address) and pipex email password.
The outgoing Server Name is: smtp.talktalk.net
Port: 587
User Name: Full pipex email address
Authentication method: Password
Connection Security: STARTTLS

Yes, Thunderbird on Mac, and default mail on iPhone. Both are showing no mails since approx 14.00 on 23/02/23, same on Talk Talk webmail.
Thunderbird is up to date - 102.8.0 (64-bit) – Mac is running Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68), and iPhone iOS 16.3.1
Profile settings checked and updated as requested with my details

If you saw the message from TalkTalk advising "Our records show that you are still accessing your email using unencrypted email settings, because of this you will no longer be able to receive or send emails via this email app or software" then the email address receiving that notification has been limited to webmail only access as a last resort action by TalkTalk to stop the use of insecure email.
TalkTalk Mail webmail is secure by design using an up to date Internet browser.

Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.
You will be able to get email access restored to email apps or software including mail collection services so long as you're ready to use up to date and secure email settings for all the ways you view emails. We can advise on device and software compatibility and provide customer setup guides. Just let us know each mail collection service, each device, its operating system and email software including version that are in current use.
Is Thunderbird on the MAC the only way you view mail messages? What is the MacOS operating system? Must be 10.12 Sierra or later. Clearly the authentication is an issue.
For a definitive check of settings take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Camera icon (desktop browser) or Picture icon (mobile browser) above this reply area.
When you confirm the secure settings are ready I can request TalkTalk Support to restore full access. TalkTalk Support will respond here and access will be restored usually within a couple of working days.
