Hi there,

I have been unable to receive mail through IMAP since 12pm 17/04/25.

However, I have been able to use the webmail client without issues the entire time.

I have checked the settings multiple times, and my son has too, including attempting to add the account on his phone, but to no avail.

Could it be that there is a block on IMAP on the account from Talktalk's side?

Any help appreciated.

Hi @staceatron,

Are you still having the same problem? I've just managed to fix my own IMAP issue - see the post on my own thread if still interested.

Cheers.

Yes @RigaMortice, the STARTTLS is supposed to be better than  SSL/TLS, I suggested earlier, even though they both contain TLS. Granted.

Sorry about that.

Hi.

I can't offer any real help on this, except to say that I have the same issue. I'd successfully accessed my mail (talktalk.net address) using Outlook 365 until the morning of 21st April, and then it stopped working with a login failure. It's still failing today.

Initially I assumed it was an Outlook issue but then downloaded a copy of Thunderbird to check and found it fails the same way.

My webmail continues to work, although it's not great to use.

Just to be pedantic the outgoing (SMTP) encryption method for Windows should be STARTTLS not SSL/TLS as suggested previously, assuming the post at Email settings | SMTP, IMAP & POP3 | TalkTalk Help & Support is up-to-date. However even using the right settings doesn't help me!

Let me know if you get this fixed,  although it's possible we have different issues.

Hi, @staceatron

The IMAP username should be your full TalkTalk email address e.g.  initial-part@talktalk.net, initial-part@tiscali.co.uk, etc

The same for SMTP username.

But I suppose you already checked that, as you can log into TalkTalk webmail

In Thunderbird, check if the SMTP port has remained as 587. Sometimes it self-changes to 465

If you use the full email address and the password that you use in TalkTalk webmail

and the server details I gave above, I can't see why you wouldn't connect via an email client, like Thunderbird.

I don't have any better answer.

Edit: Have you got the later version of Thunderbird? (138.0.2)

We have tried on both Gmail and Thunderbird on Android, using the settings you mentioned above.

The specific error given, which I failed to give above, was authentication - wrong username or password. However, the same credentials allow us to log into webmail without any issues.

We have tried both with and without the @talktalk.net part.

Hi, @staceatron

Here are the current settings, if you want to check again:

Incoming email server: mail.talktalk.net on Port 993   Secure connection type: SSL/TLS

Outgoing email server: smtp.talktalk.net on Port 587   Secure connection type: SSL/TLS

That's a long time, that you have not been able to set the proper settings.

What is the name of your email program?

I don't know of any reason TalkTalk would block your IMAP.
