I'm currently on fibre 65 ( have been for a year or two ) which I assume is fttc as we have a phone line coming into the house.
Looking on TT website this morning they're offering fibre 65 with a guaranteed speed of 55mbs.
Contacted support to find out why fibre 65 is guaranteed 55mbs but MY guaranteed is 31mbs.
Their response was "the speed you get may be lower than the guaranteed speed"... which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever !!.
I'm wondering if the advertised fibre 65 is now FTTP which would explain the guaranteed 55mbs or is this a marketing ploy by talktalk. Got no joy from support who couldnt answer that simple question.

Hi
99% of the time the guaranteed speed is reached or exceeded, I'm just saying that there have been a small number of cases where external factors caused an issue. If the guaranteed speed is not reached, then engineers are sent to investigate and see if improvement can be made. This is usually successful but I have seen times where an area had aluminium cables that BT used in the 80's to save money. These are not a good conductor for data signals so can cause issues.

Hello Karl.
Thanks for that.
So you're saying that although on the website talktalk guarantee a speed of 55mbs on fibre65, that is dependent on other factors.. so surely it cannot be guaranteed then ? .. What am I missing please ?

Hi
We do have both fibre 65 packages as FTTC and FTTP if it is available in your area. The guaranteed speed is based on the area estimates we receive from Openreach etc, so speeds could be lower if for example your line was old, there were aluminium lines in the area instead of copper, etc, so their could be external factors outside of our control that we are unaware of.
Thanks
Karl.
