On returning from a week away I notice that my sync speeds had dropped, along with a commensurate fall in download speed. Normally I would be syncing around 47 or 48 down and getting a download speed of around 43 or even 44 mbps. This has now fallen to syncing at 40mbps, resulting in a download speed of 37mbps. Router has been powered off for 40 minutes then restated and that was 24 hours ago. No change. Might not sound a lot but a 10-15% reduction in speed when I have people working from home and I cant get full fibre is, actually, a lot so I'd like to know what the cause is and for it to be rectified.

Hi philipm
Thanks for your reply.
DLM may still start to increase the speed again on its own, if the connection remains stable.
If the speed drops any further then please let me know.

OK. Well, I guess I have to accept that as the best I can get, then. Obviously, if it falls again I'll be back in touch but thank you for all your efforts.
All the best.

Hi philipm
The current sync speed is above the predicted range for your line.
The engineer can try and reset DLM and this may increase the speed slightly (but we can't guarantee if the speed will increase)

Ok. Availability will be an issue as I am out of the country between the 1st and 9th of this month, then between the 14th and 19th of next. That pretty much leaves only the 10th, 11th and 12th of July when I can be available any time.
On the charges front, I get the concept of charging me if there is a fault internally to my home (though nothing has changed for years, so I can't see how that would be) but I don't get the idea of charging me if they can't find a fault, full stop. (screen shot attached).
So, the question is, do you think there is something amiss and that I should be able to obtain higher sync speeds than I am, currently? If you do, then we need it looked at. If you don't and you think the sync speeds are correct for my distance from the cabinet, then is there any point in getting Openreach on the case?
Talktalk's advertising for the Fibre 65 connection I have says average download speeds of 67 mbps which is, clearly, way off what I'm getting.
Finally, do you have any insider knowledge of how I might get full fibre? It's been installed all over my postcode area except 2 small areas. Obviously, I'm in one of them and I'm guessing it's because our cables are underground instead of on poles. Why can't the fibre be fed through the existing conduit?
Sorry that's all a bit lengthy. Hope you can get where I'm coming from.

Morning philipm
Early bird and all that 🙂
Can you provide your availability AM and PM?
Please can you also confirm potential Engineer charges

Hi. You're up early!!
If you think we can get an increase then, yes, please do whatever you can.
Let me know what you need from me.

Morning @philipm
The sync speed hasn't increased any further. Would you like me to arrange an Openreach engineer visit to take a look and possibly reset DLM?

Hi philipm
I've checked and I can see that the sync speed hasn't increased any further.
I will check this again tomorrow.
Thanks

Hi philipm
The speed may still continue to increase if the connection remains stable.
Please can you keep the router powered up and I will check the connection stats again on Thursday to see if DLM has made any changes.
Thanks

I posted the old router back to you in the prepaid envelope so I can't go back to it. Looks like I'll just have to accept that there has been some degradation on the line. If it goes any more I'll have to get in touch again. Bit of a PITA really. We're totally surrounded by fiber but our single street has underground cables rather than telegraph posts so we cant get FTTP. I now have two people WFH so just try to eek out as much bandwidth as I can.

HI @philipm
The last test I completed showed that the line was in sync at 40mb.
Would you like to leave this router connected for a further 48hrs to see if the speed increases again or swap back to your old router?
on 24-06-2024 09:57 AM
Hi.
Yes. 43.6 is the current sync speed. It's stayed at that all weekend. Ironically, if you recall, the old one was syncing at 47 before I swapped it out so I haven't achieved any improvement over that. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Morning @philipm
I can see that the sync speed has started to increase from 40mb to just under 44mb.
How's the connection/speed been for you since the new router was connected?
on 20-06-2024 06:46 AM
Hi philipm
Ok, I will check the connection stats/speed again on Monday.
Thanks
Debbie

OK. Will do but that will have to wait until tomorrow morning now so it will probably be the weekend until I can update this post again.

@philipm Apologies, I thought the new one was already connected.
Yes please can you connect the new router for at least 48hrs to allow DLM time to monitor the connection and adjust the profile/speed.
on 19-06-2024 02:19 PM
Hi. Just to be clear, Debbie. I haven't actually connected the new router up yet. The stats I gave you were all for my original router. Would you still prefer that I set the new one up?

Hi @philipm
I'm glad to hear that the router has arrived 🙂
It would be worth checking the speed again in 48hrs to allow DLM time to monitor the connection with the new router connected.
Thanks
