My HG 635 router has for several mongths been randomly losing connection every once in a while.

It doesn't show on the router, all lights winking and blinking, but the PC, Laptop and TV all or variously lose connection.

Today that is happening very frequently, four times in the last hour!
furthermore, The internet when available is very ssllooww!

Can TT please advise what can be done?

Thanks.

Sorry, that wasn't clear. I hunted for all my computer bits in a packing case in the garage and found only one other router which was the "beige box"!
Couldn't see any detail on it except that it was Chinese and looked quite old, ie older than the HG635 I'm currently struggling with.

Yesterday after several glitches, it all settled down and behaved itself!
Today however I had to reboot the router 'cos neither my PC nor my laptop would connect. One just said "unable to connect" the other eventually said "wrong password"!
I again submitted the correct password (same as before) and still not able to connect.

Eventually I did the reboot and got the PC connected.

During all this, Alexa and her friends were all oblivious of this carnage and continued to work as normal!

Further, despite my CCTV camera showing as having a strong connection, and being visible to my Phone when on either WiFi or solely via a data connection, I was/am unable to view the live RTSP stream via VLC on my PC.

The usual "log-in box" doesn't appear for me to insert the password!

Even more of a problem is the fact that trying to view the Camera on my iPad, the dratted "App" has frozen and I cant interact with it!

All this whilst frantically trying to pack for a holiday  departing Saturday morning, Fighting fires on other fronts ; Bank and Utilities who have all decided to plague me with the intent of stopping me from going on holiday!
Paranoid?

Moi?

Probably, but I reall could do without all this hassle and need practical help! 😄

Hi @Steamywee I can sense your anxiety about changing equipment.

The HG635 that you mentioned at the outset is not a "beige box," is that perhaps an equally old Openreach modem?

Either way, the only way to progress this is to grasp the nettle as it were and upgrade. Of course, with many other devices connected that can be daunting. But you have already received the best advice from @fr8ys on this i.e. change the SSID on your new router to match the one you already have.

They are actually quite slimline boxes: 15 inches long x 8" x 1.5" so could be easily missed as slim enough to go through most letter boxes, @Steamywee.

@fr8ys Thanks for that, sounds a lot like what's happening now.

I can't find any other boxes from TT and that would have been quite q big one, bigger that this Beige box!

I really must get some stuff done in prep for my Hols.

I'll check back again when I get time but There is no chance I would find anything else, all my Computer stuff is in a large packing case in the Garage, there is no where else to look!

@Steamywee, if it helps jog the memory, this was your thread from that time.

You printed off Karl's instructions to have a go at setting up the password of your choice etc!

Edit: crossposted with @fr8ys's reply!

Lordy! I knew it had to be long ago, thanks to Google Calendar I see that I was fresh back from holiday that week.

Have to admit, I sometimes enter a room wondering why I've gone there, so I've little chance of remembering that long ago.

Can't imagine what happened to it.

Had I requested one because I've always been happy with this HG635 and wouldn't think so?

If I get time, I will try the Beige one but unlikely as the universe seems to have other plans for me, everything that can go wrong is doing just that!!

I've just been looking through all the Computer related detritus I have and the only thing I can find is some horrid small beige router with lots of tiny holes in!
Sound familiar?

I don't have anything else in the form of Routers.

My next door neighbour has something later than mine which is Black, again many holes, like a speaker grille and size approx. A4, which I suspect is later that my Huawei HG 635, but I've not got that, just the Beige Chinese box about 6 x 4 inches, Can't make out any of the writing on its labels.

Since I'm out of contract, I won't be buying another router.

No time to set up a different one and be sure it's stable with all my other "stuff" B4 hols, might try after to get me through until I go FTTP.
