Will the connection be upgraded?

Hi there. I've checked the availability and been told I can get either Fibre 35 or Fibre 65 where I am now (in South East Cornwall).

This is fast enough for my purposes now, but will it be fast enough for 4K streaming in the future? Ideally I'd like the option to move to Fibre 150 before long.

Here's the link I'm referring to here, which suggests a minimum of 50 Mb/s download speed for 4K UHD streaming (and later on suggests that this may be a conservative figure if you allow for the possibility of 25% dropoff);

https://www.cable.co.uk/broadband/guides/broadband-streaming/

Thanks in advance,

CP .

Thanks for replying Arne (and a Happy New Year) and for being honest; someone else told me it would have been done by now.

The area has actually been upgraded to full fibre, but not by Openreach so I can't access it; it's been done by a local company. Am I to assume that I won't be able to get full fibre from you until all the copper lines in the area (I'm in Cornwall) have gone?

Theoretically, one way this could be done would be for you to buy capacity from suppliers other than Openreach when those suppliers have already put down full fibre in the area. That way you'd both make money; the other company for supplying the fibre and you in the same way you're doing now (but on top of their cable rather than Openreach's). And I'd have an ultra-fast connection without having to wait up to a year for the end of my contract. That sounds fair to me.

Regards,

Hi ColonelPanic232

Unfortunately we are not given a schedule for the full fibre upgrades, which will eventually replace all the copper lines.

All we can advise it to continue to wait.

Sorry

Hi there. Eight months on and still no sign of your faster fibre connection (Fibre 150) in the area - is this still being planned?

My existing connection is fine for most Internet and streaming radio, but it would be nice to have the faster connection if possible.

Thank you Arne. I will keep looking for the faster connections though because it would be nice to have access to them (and they were also part of the discussion I had when I agreed to extend my contract).

Hi ColonelPanic232

Fibre 35 is actually 40 down 10 up , and Fibre 65 is 80 down 20 up.

So based on that article if they recommend 50mbps then fiber 65 will be most suitable.
