Leaving talktalk

Telephone lines all busy, I'm sitting on the phone all day for them to tell me, they can price match sky fiber 500 at £31 per month. I also see I can place an order with sky and they will notify talktalk in change of provider. Do I really need to call to cancel talk talk broadband.

It's best to to ensure they are aware you wish to leave.
If you use the switching process it should work and you will get an email from TalkTalk confirming they have received the request.
Phoning the Loyalty Department does give them the opportunity to offer you a deal, which you may or may not accept, but confirming your intention gives you peace of mind that it will be actioned.
Try phoning 0345 172 0088 and ask for the Loyalty Team.
