Fibre VoIP RTP and SIP port numbers for ATA HT 801 Grandstream

Last week, my VoIP phone, which had been working fine for 2 years or more, stopped working. I get a dial tone but no incoming voice.  The ATA is a Grandstream HT 801. My router (not an EERO 6) is set to forward RTP on port 5004 and that configuration has been working fine until last week. I suspect Talk Talk may have changed their VoIP port configuration.

Please will someone tell me the current RTP and if used, SIP port range to forward to the ATA to get my phones working again? Many thanks.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear this. So just to confirm, are you using the Wifi Hub 2 with the Grandstream adapter?

Thanks

Thank you Gondola.

I now appreciate that you do not represent Talk Talk and are not their messenger. Sorry for the flame.

Hi @Nelly993

Your original post stated you were not using an eero 6 as originally supplied by TalkTalk.  If you returned the eero 6 then TalkTalk will have recorded that the eero 6 serial number is no longer allocated to your customer MyAccount.

I suspect that what has happened is that the TalkTalk system could not access the TalkTalk hardware for the update that was sent out via the Customer Premises TR069 protocol to fix the VOIP issue. TalkTalk will need to send you a replacement eero 6 or alternative TalkTalk supplied router for testing and return to make sure that the TalkTalk supplied Grandstream adapter has been correctly updated.

Don't blame the messenger - my "tag line" states Community volunteer and if you hover over that you'll see a tool-tip saying "Opinions and stances are mine not those of TalkTalk" - it's TalkTalk policy not to publish the VOIP configuration settings and to support only TalkTalk supplied and fully updated equipment. I have an eero 6 gateway router from TalkTalk and eero 6+ routers providing mesh network coverage to my new home. To connect my media equipment I use an unmanaged 5-port gigabit network switch that was, and still is, available for less than £10. That is the recommended solution to increase the Ethernet connectivity of the eero 6 range of routers.

I will certainly escalate this topic to TalkTalk to advise you directly of the next steps in your case.

Hello Keith and Gondola

Keith, thank you, I could see that you are not a Talk Talk employee, from you tag line, but thought that Gondola was.

Hello Gondola,

Please accept my apologies; I had though you a Talk Talk employee. I thank you for your messages of help.

I will have to try to find a solution. If you do learn anything of use, perhaps you would be good enough to post me a message?

Thank you both very much for trying to help.

Hi @Nelly993

You have to realise that both @Gondola and myself do not work for TalkTalk, but are just customers of theirs like yourself. If these port numbers have been changed, we didn't do it & or know if such a change has been made. Using 3rd party routers is all very well, but when issues like this arise, you cannot expect us to be able to help. The proper thing to do was to keep your Eero so that you could put it back on temporarily to see where the problem lies.

Hello, Gondola,

Thank you for your reply, however, as written in my previous posts "I do not have an EERO 6 router", so "asking you to power down and repower the eero 6 device" is not use. There is no EERO 6 here, I returned it  to Talk Talk a couple of years ago because it has only 2 ethernet ports, 1 for the WAN in and 1 output, which would be required to connect the HT 801 ATA. That would leave no port to connect my other devices.

I am very disappointed that you will not simply tell if you have changed the port numbers and to what. If that is what you have done then the solution is simple; I just need to know the ports and I will change my router setting accordingly. If, on the other hand, you have *not* changed the ports then there is another problem.  I do not understand why you chose to withhold that information from a loyal paying customer, me. Thanks

Hi @Nelly993

I appreciate that you have been using a third party router in place of the TalkTalk supplied eero 6. TalkTalk do not publish the ATA configuration but will support you, and raise a fault ticket if necessary, when you use the TalkTalk supplied equipment. That was the reason I ended with asking you to power down and repower the eero 6 device as the TalkTalk supported router for your package connected to the TalkTalk supplied ATA.

There will probably be a lot of updates waiting for the eero 6 so allow those to complete before final testing - you'll need the erro app to force the updates. In due course, let us know if the TalkTalk Digital Voice (VOIP) service is back in action.

Thanks, Keith. I tried forwarding the range 5060 to 5068 to the HT 801 but that did not enable voice receive.

Thank you for your reply, Gondola. Yes, I have a Talk Talk supplied ATA Grandstream HT 801. However, as written in my original message, I do not has an EERO 6 router. The router I do have has been working fine with the HT 801 for the last couple of years, until it stopped working at the end of last week, coincident with the Talk Talk notice of a fault. I have power-cycled the HT 801 several times.

My router settings have not changed - Port 5004 for RTP is forwarded to the HT 801.  Please advise whether Talk Talk has changed that setting and whether any SIP port range now needs to be forwarded too? Thanks.

SIP is not a range of ports at all, as it is used for signalling purposes. It will probably be the industry standard UDP port 5060. RTP is more complex as vendors can set their own ranges and these port numbers are normally contained within the SIP messaging.

Hi @Nelly993

There was a reported issue with TalkTalk Digital Voice (VOIP) - Some customers are getting an engaged tone when a call should be connected.  TalkTalk released a fix overnight on 19th January to resolve this issue. If you're still unable to make a call after this has been resolved on the 20th January, please reboot your router and try again.

I assume that you do have a TalkTalk supplied Grandstream HT 801 Digital Voice Adaptor (ATA)?

Let us know if your Digital Voice Service is back in action after powering off the eero 6 and ATA and repowering after a minute.
