My landline is used amybe once a year. My mobile is only turned on for OTP at the bank. I don't use them. But a replacement for Skype would be nice, save me being AFK to talk. Does TT do this? If not, why not? and any suggestions for free 1-2-1 short talks through the TT ISP?

Zoom is a service you use on a device. TalkTalk do not market devices or video calling services, they are an ISP. So two different things.

The TalkTalk Community has now moved to a peer-to-peer support model. This means that the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link here How to contact TalkTalk Broadband - TalkTalk Help & Support

OK thanks. So TT charges, Zoom doesn't for 40 mins. No-brainer then.

Skype shutting down was a Microsoft decision, nothing to do with TalkTalk. If you want a replacement, then look at Microsoft Teams or Zoom, etc. TalkTalk does offer Digital Voice via a suitable router on some packages. However, the call charges are the same as their normal landline rates.
