Replacement box

My 80 year old father was remarking at the weekend that his tv box is losing more and more functionality. His examples were ITVx and Now Tv. He couldn't tell me which type of box it is, but I presume its the 370.
If he were to upgrade, what would the cost be, and do any of the replacements have a recording feature so he can tape dozens of copies of 'homes under the hammer' he'll never get round to watching?

Hi @Tyke1
Please start your own thread as each case is considered unique and it is easier for support to be given to one person per thread and also less confusing.
To start your thread click the Browse button, then Help With Your Service and select the appropriate category. You will then see a Blue Button "Start A Topic"
Please also note that you should only post back on that thread and not start another on the same topic as multiple posts cause delay to you and others seeking help.
Thank you

As far as I am concerned if you are paying Talktalk for a TV package then they should provide you with a Youview box which is capable of delivering that package.  It is not acceptable that Talktalk should respond to customers by simply saying 'your set top box no longer supports ITV on Catch Up', or by blaming the app providers. My contract is supposed to provide me with On Demand viewing of Freeview channels.

Hi

The advice from fr8ys is correct.

TalkTalk no longer provide the older legacy Youview boxes, but for a comparison of the new TV box, you can see that here : Compare our TalkTalk TV Boxes - TalkTalk Help & Support

Thanks

Karl.

Hi,

The only box that TalkTalk have with any recording capability is the 4k box, but that is more of a streaming box and has only one tuner so you can only record one channel at a time and not watch another except via the TV tuner. Even then you will need to have a separate aerial feed to each device as there is no loop through like there is with YouView boxes.

Recording is via a usb stick, but should you ever remove it and replace it you will lose all recordings.

No YouView box has ITVX as yet. Newer boxes have NowTv capability, but TalkTalk don't supply them anymore.

If you want a newer box you can purchase a refurbished one one from on line sites.

Cex also is a source and they normally offer a guarantee too.

If you go down that route then I'd recommend getting a Humax or BT branded YouView box as your Father would be familiar with these as they work the same as the 370t box. Make certain you do not buy a T1000 box, as these too have limitations.

The latest BT pro box has more functionality.

Alternatively, if the current box still meets your father's requirements and he doesn't have a smart TV with latest apps, then a Roku or Amazon fire stick will provide latest apps and also gives access to lots of free channels via other apps.

A lot to digest but hope this helps.
