I intend to switch to another provider when my Fibre65 contract ends. Presumably the relevant date is the 'go live' date given to me by my new provider? I see that the potential early termination charge is £10.20 per month. If I sign up to my new provider 14 days before my contract end date am I in any danger of getting an early termination charge? Would the charge be for a full month or a pro rata number of days?

Hi stevie_b
We always ask for the router back be aware if you keep the router.
It wont get any security updates
It wont get a firmware update
Your new provider will provide you with a router also.
Regards.

Most of us would agree with that interpretation, @stevie_b, if you still have your first ever router.
However, it won't work with any other ISP, so not really worth hanging on to.
Some people also ask if they can take up what appears to be the suggestion of recycling it themselves.
Both the above seem to get frowned upon (despite not rewording the guidelines) which does indeed seem strange.
The guidelines are here:

Don't be surprised if they do chase up the router.

So I've had a look at TalkTalk T&Cs and they say :-
7.2 All such necessary equipment will be owned by us apart from the following equipment which
you will own:
(a) any router, mesh networking device, set top box and/or digital voice adapter that we
send you as part of a new service with us; and
(b) any equipment that you have paid for.
So clearly I own the router sent when I joined TalkTalk and provided I don't terminate the contract early TalkTalk cannot REQUIRE me to return it to them.

Hi stevie_b
Correct, if you can ensure that your new live date is before the normal date for your bill to be produced, which is the 1st, I would recommend 5 days before that date.

They will require the router to be returned, @stevie_b, and will send you a prepaid returns bag.
Hang onto the certificate of posting when you send it back, so that you can track its return.
Leave your Direct Debit details in place until you are sure that you have received your final bill (for £0.00).
In the event that they might actually owe you a refund, you'd have to claim it back via My Account - they don't send it directly to your bank account, but it is more efficient to use those DD details. Otherwise you have to wait for a cheque in the post.

Thanks Arne.
So I'm right that the important date is the 'go live' date from the new provider but are you saying that TalkTalk will treat a date a few days before end-of-contract as fulfilling the full contract?
Obviously I want to avoid any possible charges such as early termination or demands for the return of the router to TalkTalk.

Hi stevie_b
Sorry that you are leaving.
To avoid a cancellation fee, you should place your request with the new provider in the last 30 days, I would suggest shortly after your September to bill stop any further bills being produced after your transfer.
Hope that helps.
