I am still using the one I got about 3 years ago. I did get sent a new one 18 months ago. When I tried to set up the new one recently I could not get access. I was advised to do a reset but was frightened to do it incase I could not set it up. I was losing download speed but unplugged for 30 minutes fixed it.
I now have 2 Asus laptops different models both under 6 months old.
My attached images will show my problem.

The Sagemcom is in my opinion a much better router than the Huawei DG8041W. They are both of a similar age, but the Sagemcom is getting many more firmware updates.

I followed the instrustions to log in, then access the Wi Fi name and password. When I tried to change the network name it did accept it, on trying to change the network pasword nothing happened so after 10 minutes or so I started from the beginning.
I am back using my 3 year old Sagemcom. Not exactly sure of the Huawei model.

Hi @Pnokio
They are both Wi-Fi Hubs & look nearly identical. The Sagemcom FAST 5364 has a copper-looking plate behind all of the holes in the front panel. If the backing to those holes is black, then you have what TalkTalk call the Wi-Fi Hub Black or Huawei DG8041W.
In your previous post, you seemed to suggest that you wanted an explanation of what is contained within Access Control, which is only on the Sagemcom.
Please can you explain in more detail as to the exact help that you want?

Hi KeithFrench, I have spent 2 hours trying to connect my 18 month old router. I says TalkTalk on the front but on connection it shows Huawei not Sagemconn. I got it to accept the default wi fi name and password but when trying to change them it would disconnect forceing me to try again. I am now back on my older hub and it works ok.

Hi @Pnokio
That is quite a vague question, specifically what do you want to know?

Now that my knowledge has been updated, could you tell me about 'Access Control' in the UI ?
on 09-07-2023 01:34 PM
Hi @Pnokio
Most wireless devices will connect to the router without WPS, just find your network name from the list of wireless networks (in a Windows PC for example), click on that network & it will then request the wireless password. The wireless network name & password are on the plastic pull-up panel on the rear of your Sagemcom FAST 5364 router.
To connect via WPS, can only be done from a device that itself allows connection to the router via WPS (typically a printer). For this, it would normally have a WPS button on the device. With the device near the router:-
Press the WPS button on the back of the Wi-Fi Hub for about 3 seconds and then release it. Then the LED on the front of the Wi-Fi Hub starts flashing amber. Alternatively, the WPS connection process can be initiated by clicking the WPS button within the UI’s WPS settings page. There is a 2 minute time window now for the device to connect.
Press the WPS button on the device & wait until it says it has connected OK. When the device has connected to your Wi-Fi Hub, or the 2 minute period has expired without a connection taking place, the LED will turn solid white.
Your device will now know the wireless username & password of your network. You will not need WPS to be enabled in the router any more unless you try to connect another device via WPS for the first time.
WPS itself can leave your router vulnerable to the bad guys, so it is always worth disabling within the router's UI. To do this, log into the router & go to:-
Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz gear icon > WPS
Turn off the Enable WPS switch & click Apply. Now go to the 5GHz band & repeat the same process:-
Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > Wi-Fi 5Ghz gear icon > WPS
If you later get another device that requires connection to your router via WPS, you will have course need to enable it again.
To pick up on your point of doing a factory default of the router, this will return your router to the configuration it was supplied to you. It will connect to your broadband OK, but any configuration that you subsequently changed in the router will be lost & will require you to put back into it.

To connect your PC by wifi to you router you generally would just click on the network icon on the right of your windows task bar (bottom right of your screen) - click on your router in the list and then enter the wifi password when prompted

As above.

What advice???????????????
on 08-07-2023 04:39 PM
My last original style of router was connected to a wired Win 7 pc. It had 2 aerials. I connected my first black Hub by entering the numbers I was sent as I had and still have'nt used WPS as nobody seems to know how to use it.

I believe the OP is under the mistaken impression that they can use WPS to connect to their PC, rather than following the advice previously given.
