Router Optimisation

Message 25 of 25
Could somebody please turn OFF the optimisation on my Fast5364 router. It continues to 'optimise' to the same channel as next door's BT hub causing interference and very slow speeds at the receiving equipment at the front of the house. I am continually having to manually reset the channel to get everything working properly.

OK. I've now got it. There is no point in trying anything yet until the router 'optimises' itself back to channel 1

I sent you the PM yesterday at 10:17 as promised. To view your PMs, click on your Avatar at the top right of the page & click on the Envelope symbol:-
PMs
There, you should see my PM with a download link to my guide.
It is quite long (about 30 pages), but you will probably only need to look at three or four pages in total. Initially look at the section called "Are you suffering from interference – prove it first". This is the first link in the table of contents.

They will not switch it off, on your say do. However, with the analyser output I want you to collect for me, I can build a case to prove to them it is WiFi optimisation that is at fault. You know it is, but I need to prove it.

Would you please tell the devices team that not being able to switch off the 'optimisation' affects the functionality of my wifi reception and thank them for the time that I have to take in manually re-setting the stupid router to 'optimise' my usage. Could you advise 'Talktalk' that when they commission the next generation of modem to ensure it does not have an 'optimisation' facility. Could somebody understand that 'optimising' a transmitter is not a good idea as it is the ability of the receivers to receive the signal is what matters.

The devices team (not forum staff) simply don't allow switch off of optimisation any more as they claim it affects other aspects of functionality, @mjlew. So we are stuck with this now and Keithfrench has the best advice to offer you.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve here......Seems very complicated. The problem is very simple - next door's bt hub is channel 1. My wonderful router 'optimises' to channel 1 frequently and the result is interference, very slow speeds and loss of Rx at the front of my house. Manually changing the channel here (usually 6 or 11) solves all the issues. The simple answer is get rid of the 'optimisation' which, basically, is useless

Do not worry about interpreting the results, I will do that for you. I will send a PM to you that contains a link for a guide of mine on Wi-Fi interference. It is quite long (about 30 pages), but you will probably only need to look at three or four pages in total. Initially look at the section called "Are you suffering from interference – prove it first". This is the first link in the table of contents. This section includes full details of free Wi-Fi analysers that I recommend for Windows, Windows phone, Android and Apple operating systems. However, I have no way of testing the Apple product. Select the analyser of your choice & my guide explains how to use it.
If you are using Wi-Fi Scanner, then please attach the zip file to this thread. As soon as I have downloaded it, I will remove the attachment from your post, to preserve your privacy.
With all other analysers, please follow my instructions below.
Collect the screenshots that I require and include them in your reply.
Please post the screenshots to me in a PM (to protect your privacy), which I have requested in my guide. No photos please as they can be difficult to read, because the text can get out of focus when zoomed in. Please ensure that the analyser window is maximised (if Windows) before taking the screenshots & upload them via the "Insert Photos" button (in a mobile browser it's the picture icon) on the post editor's toolbar with the Size parameter set to Large.

It is all working OK at the moment because I manually reset the modem to channel 6 this morning as it had, once again, 'optimised' to channel 1 (next door's BT Hub channel). I know what the problem is - it is the stupidity of something that optimises a transmitter to a channel that interferes with the receiving devices. The BT Hub is strong enough to use at the front of this house if I ever have a line outage. The frustration is having to do this nearly every day.

Hi @mjlew
@Debbie-TalkTalk has asked me to help you with your WiFi problems.
Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.
Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.
In other words, I try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to you to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.
I only send this out to people who request it.

Hi mjlew
The desk-top doesn't look too bad from what I can see (but that's not to say you're not experiencing issues)
@KeithFrench provides really good advice on improving wireless performance. Could you help please Keith?
