Do I need to change my security settings on my router as I have a ‘weak security’ message on my device? The router is a few years old.

OK, are you still on an ADSL connection? Are there no upgrade options to a faster service in your area? To be honest, with the speeds you mention, there will always be the likelihood of buffering when streaming.

I average speed is 11 mbps. I think it drops in and out a bit. Currently on 10.

OK, that is a bit long in the tooth and the support team are likely to consider a swap out to a newer model. You mentioned a lot of buffering, what is your download speed, typically?

Its a Huawei HG633. 
security setting  at the moment is WPA/WPA2 

It could be 10 years old.

Which make and model of router is it and what is the highest wireless security setting available from its interface?

Hello Karl

Yes the weak security message is on my iPad. The router is very old so I think it doesn’t upgrade to the suggested WPA2 Aes or WPA3. We have a lot of buffering on several channels too.
