Download speed regularly decreased from 516 Mbps to 94 Mbps

Hello

I am on a 500Mbps package however I noticed in the last few months that my speed at the modem is automatically reduced to 94 every couple of week or so.  I see this on the Eero app and when running a speed test the low speed is confirmed.

To remedy this I have to restart the Eero router or unplug the modem.

Considering that I pay for 500Mbps I wonder why this keeps happening, and what may be causing it and how to fix it once and for all.

TalkTalk can't certainly expect their customer to reboot their router every time the speed goes down, or can they?

Thank you for looking into this.

You can connect a device such as a laptop directly to the ONT with an Ethernet cable bypassing the eero. I'm just suggesting that you could do this just long enough to run a couple speed tests

How can I do that? I thought you need the eero as gateway/router to connect all devices to?

Thanks. The next time it happens are you able to test with a device connected directly to the ONT, bypassing the eero, to see if the speed is still low at the ONT

Yes Chris. Restarting the eero seems to restore the speed.

OK thanks. So when the speed drops to 94Mbps, restarting the gateway eero restores the speed, without having to do anything at the ONT?

Thanks, could you add your TalkTalk home telephone number or account number to your community profile and I'll take a look at this for you

Hi davox,

Just to confirm, when you referred to the modem did you mean the ONT?

I don't have to power down the ONT but I have done a few times hoping in a permanent fix.

I have 3 Eeros.

Thanks

Hi @davox

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have to power down the ONT on the wall also for the speed to increase?

How many eeros do you have?

Hi davox

I'm really sorry to hear this.

Can I just check, does your eero have the latest software update? This can affect the speed. You can check the updates in the eero app.

Thanks
