Update 5464 from SG4K100136?

Hi,

when I upgraded to Future Fibre last year I was supplied with an eero 6 and a Grandstream HT801. I later decided to buy a Sagemcom 5464-2.T4 router and swapped out the eero and Grandstream. The 5464, landline phone connection, port forwarding and my VPN (Proton) - all have been working flawlessly since.

192.168.1.1 identifies my 5464 as a TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub 2 with firmware SG4K100136. Reading forum posts, there have been at least two firmware updates released since SG4K100136 - SG4K100158 and SG4K100174.

I have some questions which hopefully the good folk here can answer.

Because my 5464 was not originally supplied by TalkTalk, is there any technical obstacle that would prevent TalkTalk from updating the firmware?

Did SG4K100158 have any other issues apart from setting the firewall to high?

SG4K100174 is  stated as changing the firewall setting back to medium. I read in Some Devices Unavailable Since Firmware Update that the next firmware update is coming very soon. Does that mean that SG4K100174 has issues or is the next firmware update actually SG4K100174 and it was only being pushed on an ad hoc basis to people that were having problems with SG4K100158 and thus it was not generally released to everybody?

I have my 5464 firewall set on medium and I don't have a smart doorbell, heating or lighting, etc. Do you recommend updating from SG4K100136 and should I wait for the next soon to be released firmware update?

Thanks.

Fair enough. As regards your current setup, if it ain't broke don't fix it!  🙂

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Since I have no issues with Firmware 136 I am quite happy to stay on it. I will enquire later when Firmware 174 goes on general release whether or not my 5464 is updateable.

ferguson, there was nothing wrong with the eero/DVA so I did not think TalkTalk would replace them with a Hub 2. If the eero had more than the two ethernet ports that it has I would have continued to use it. But I have a couple of PCs so it was either buy a switch or a Hub 2. For simplicity I chose to buy a Hub 2.

Hi

just to add that Firmware 174 vis currently in Trial phase and only pushed out to a selected few whilst testing. I would advise to wait for this to be fully released to the customer base then we can see if your router can be updated.

Thanks

Karl.

My first thought is why on earth did you buy a Hub 2 on the secondary market when TalkTalk would likely have supplied one for free in exchange for your eero/DVA setup if that wasn't working well for you?

Second, if it is all good for you just now there is no need to hasten for an update.
