VoIP with Non-TalkTalk Router

After bad experiences with an Eero router, I abandoned it in favour of using a DrayTek Vigor 2927ax with FFTP with no problems.

With copper landlines being disabled in the near future, I've elected to keep my landline number and convert to VoIP .

TalkTalk have sent me another router with a VoIP adapter fitted, however, I wish to continue with my DrayTek which does not have a VoIP adapter.

To do this, I understand that I will need a VoIP adapter such as a YeaLink W70B.

I also understand that I will need TalkTalk to issue to me certain SIP account parameters to enable me to set up my current landline number.

Am I on the right track please and have I missed anything?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Andy,

Can you please update your community profile to include your:

  • Name
  • Telephone number
  • Alternative contact number

We'll then look into this further. Please do not post this information on this thread. Once you've updated your profile please post in your topic to confirm it's updated.

Thanks
Chris

Quite right, it shouldn't be difficult, @andykchapman.

Thanks for all the help so far.

I had a long online 'chat' with TT about this. It was difficult to communicate what I wanted even after assistance from two human responders.

I had to set up a new account which resulted in another eero router arriving!

I did my best to ask that a Digital Voice Adaptor would be supplied as part of the new contract but nothing has arrived. The DVA seems to be elusive to the 'chat' team so my question is:

How to I get hold of a DVA from TT?

I'm sure this should not be difficult but I'm struggling.

Kind regards

Andy

Yes, it should work the same as the TalkTalk supplied router

Thanks Chris.

Do you know if the TalkTalk DVA has the TT parameters built in so that I can continue with my current landline phone number? i.e. in the same way as if I used the TT supplied router?

Hi Andy,

As far as I'm aware the DVA would work with the DrayTek but I don't know for sure

Hi Karl

I've had a look at the TalkTalk DVA and it shows details of how to connect it to an eero router.

Will the DVA work with other routers such as my DrayTek please or is there something specific about the eero?

I abandoned the eero as it refused to work with some of my network items (my electric car charger for example).

Hi @Karl-TalkTalk thanks for the clarification. For my education, if the O.P. purchased a DVA, would he need any information for it to work with his TT VoIP number?

Hi

Our network teams have fully instructed us not to give out any sip details for voip, so this is not something we can issue.

You can try the suggestion from Divsec, but if this is not working, you would then need a digital Voice Adapter.

Thanks

Karl.

Hi @andykchapman nice choice Draytek! There will be other and undoubtedly better advice coming but I suggest the following.

Hold on till the TT router with VoIP arrives, then see if you can put it into access point mode, connect to Draytek, and use the VoIP connection.

Worth a try?
