I have tried enabling subtitles in accessibility setting but when I try to watch, even if I press the subtitles button on remote, it says it isn't available, yet I can get subtitles on my Kindle fire for the same programmes. TIA

Each app will have it's own subtitle settings, but not all apps will provide subtitles for certain content.

The apps will work differently on different devices., so the missing subtitles may well be a feature of the app on the 4k box.
The subtitle button may not work on the apps so you may have to look at settings within each app to find subtitles.
