Fibre Speed Boost

Hi Debbie,

Yes this was on a wired connection.

Unfortunately I don't have an alternative router as this one was bought as a replacement.

Would the slightly high pings be enough to make a difference from the 70mbps to the 40 that I am getting?

My apologies,

I should have said 'Michelle' not Debbie :seenoevil:

Hi larrywilkie,

Sorry for the delay. Would you like us to send a replacement router for testing purposes to rule this out?

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

Yes please, that sounds like a good option.

Many thanks

Hi Larry

The replacement router is on its way, please allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.

Let us know how the connection/speed compares with this router.

Thanks

Thanks Debbie,

I'll post results on here once all set up and tested.

HI Debbie,

I received the new router today and have run several download tests.

Unfortunately the results are worse than previously.

I am getting approx 25mbps with the new router compared to what I was getting before.

The router I have received is the older type, but the one I am currently using is the Wi Fi Hub. Would this make a difference?

Hi Larry,

Thanks for trying this. Just to confirm, was this speed test also completed wired with no other applications running at the same time? Do you also get the same speed on 2 different devices?

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

It was wired on desktop PC and wireless on mobile, both were similar.

I’ve now plugged the Wi Fi Hub back in and speed has reverted to 39-40mbps

Hi  larrywilkie,

Thanks for trying that. I can't see any obvious reason why your wired throughput speeds should be so low against sync speed. Do you have another device that your can run wired speed tests on just in case there's some issue with the PC

Hi,

I have tried disconnecting the internet cable from the PC, and running a speed checker on the Smart TV, which is connected by wire, and the speed came out lower on there than on the PC, so I am at a loss!!

Hi Larry

I think it may be worth arranging a TalkTalk engineer visit so they can complete some testing.

Would you like me to arrange this?

Thanks

Hi Debbie,

I have just run a speed test now and it came back at 45mbps, which is the fastest I have seen so far.

I recently signed up to a new router trial, which I believe is starting at the end of January.

Maybe it would be wise to see what comes of that before we proceed any further?

Hi Larry,

Ok thanks for the update and please let us know how the connection compares with the alternative router.

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

Just an update on this.

Unfortunately I wasn't selected for the router trial, so I can't do any tests on that.

I have just run a status check on my account and it says that speed to my router is 74mbps, but when I carry out a speed check, my result is 44 mbps, so I'm just wondering if there is anything else you can suggest?

Hi Larry,

I'm sorry to hear this. Is this still a wired speed test? I've re-read through your thread and I can see that you've tried 2 different routers and also ran wired speed tests with 2 different devices, however the throughput speeds are still low.

I can see that you have previously tried switching the router off for a full 30 minutes and then retested the speed. It may be worth trying this again just to see how the throughput speeds compare now.

Is everything ok with the voice service with no noise on the line? If there is still no improvement then could you run another wired ping and trace route and we can ask our Network Team to take a look.

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

I have just had the router off for 30 mins, and run a retest, and at the moment it is running slower at 29mbps.

There is no noise on the phone line.

Can you send me the links again for the ping and trace route and I will give that a try.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for trying this again. I've included the Help Article below.

Run a Ping or Traceroute

Thanks
