Hi
I have fibre 35 package which delivers 35mbps to the router.
Recently a very old microfilter stopped working so I swapped it for another very old spare that I had. This microfilter delivers 30mbps to my device.
Thinking that this old microfilter might stop working soon, I bought a spare. This delivered 18mbps to start with but within minutes failed and delivered just 0.2mbps. This has happened with 5 (!) brand new microfilters from 3 different suppliers.
Meanwhile the very old microfilter still delivers 30mbps!
This is very odd - any ideas what is going on please?

Hi Michelle
New router arrived and installed. All works very well and download speed is about 33mbps which is 10% faster than the best I could get before.
I'll return the old router.
thanks

Hi Clive,
The router is on the way and should arrive in the next 48-72hrs. Please let us know how you get on.
Thanks

@CliveLees, if a problem develops in future with a microfilter, Talktalk can simply send you one of these as a replacement - you don't have to go shopping for them yourself.
There may just have been some sort of mismatch in the brand. The new router will come with a couple of them in the box.

Yes, please send me a new router - that seems a good idea. BTW just for the record, I show pictures of speed tests with both old and new filters.

Hi Clive,
Thank you. I've re-run the line test now which is still clear, however I can see that the sync speed has dropped. Would you like us to send a replacement router so you can replace this as well to see if it makes any difference changing the whole equipment set up?

OK, I will reconnect the new, non working microfilter in the next couple of minutes. I will leave it in place until 9:20am when I will put back in the working microfilter so I can access broadband again and continue this conversation.

Hi Clive,
Would it be possible to connect the other/new microfilter now for an hour so we can re-run the line tests to see how this compares from our side please?
Thanks

So, overnight (say for about 5 hours) I had the new microfilter installed to see if it would work after being installed for a while. The answer is, it didn't work. So at about 6AM this morning I put back in my old microfilter and immediately I was able to download 30mbps.
So, what we have is this. A very old microfilter which may have been stored for about 15 years before being used, works perfectly, but 5 brand new ones don't. Why? (Although I don't have a problem as such, when the current very old microfilter breaks, I am going to be stuck.)
Thanks

Morning Clive,
I'm sorry to hear this. I've run a test on your line now which hasn't detected a fault. Which microfilter is connected at the moment please?

Hi @CliveLees every time the connection breaks between router and exchange the system monitoring quality suspects a drop in quality and slows down the connection till it becomes stable.
I'd be tempted to leave well alone🤞. However it is probably worth asking the TT team to run a line test for you, probably tomorrow now.
