Hi, I have set the SSID channel manually for the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz channels. However, this randomly changes at random intervals throughout the day, when looking at the router logs I can see that ‘channel hopping’ has been initiated remotely some how which changes the channel, despite being manually being configured by me.
This causes connectivity issues and results in online gaming sessions disconnecting mid game etc.
I would be grateful for any help in resolving this.

Hi,
Ok thank you for confirming and please let us know how you get on and if there is any change following this.
Thanks

It doesnt happen when on Ethernet so that narrows it down to the Wi-Fi connection, obviously Wi-Fi is never going to be completely stable but random latency spikes above 4000ms in some instances shouldn't be happening, might be time for a factory reset of the hub as I've not tried that yet. The speeds are always fine, 73mb down 18up, I never really see issues with my speeds, just high latency/ping in online games.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that and I understand. We have also fed this back to the team.
Sure. I've run a test on the line now which is clear. Does this also happen if you connect wired? Does it seem to happen at certain times of the day? If you run a speed test when the latency jumps up, what do the speeds look like?

Can you do a line test on my line to see if there are any faults? I am constantly getting massive high lag spikes when gaming, my latency jumps up tp 900ms, I seen a post on here about this earlier and you had done a line test and found a fault so maybe their is a fault on my line and its not interference after all.

Oh well, you've lost a customer then. if I cant make changes to my hub without it reverting back to whatever it deems best then what use is that? 😂

Hi kirkyboy4
Apologies for this.
We've been advised that we no longer switch of wifi optimisation.

Its a bit better than before but nah, no one has contacted me once, so I cannot manually set a wireless channel as the router decides which channel is best by itself, I also cannot force my 5GHZ Wifi Band to use a bandwidth of 40MHz, as the router decides to automatically shift back to 80MHz which is where I get all the interference, running half bandwidth does decrease my download speeds but there is virtually no interference from neighbouring networks.
I work in IT so I know what Im doing, but its absolutely mind blowing that the router/hub does not remember the choices you made, but rather overwrites your choices with its own based on what it thinks is best??? MADNESS! ill be moving to a different ISP where I can actually configure my router and not have it bloody change back!!!!

Hi kirkyboy4
Do you not need the team to contact you now? Is everything still working ok with the different router?

Congratulations @kirkyboy4 , not following the nonsense, being tried to be imposed on you by TalkTalk.

Hi, you would be aswell as cancelling this fault or they can turn it off if they want, I put in a 3rd party solution and everything has been much more stable since. 👍

Hi kirkyboy4
I'm really sorry about this.
I've contacted the team and asked them to contact you on the mobile number you have provided. I did provide this to the team when we last spoke but I'm just making sure they ring you on this number.

To be honest I dont see what there is to discuss, other customers have asked to get Wifi Optimisation turned off and youve did it no issues, ive been jumping through hoops trying to get this sorted, my contract is up in September so ill be moving elsewhere most likely, I bought a TP-LINK RE605X and wired my device directly into it and ive not had any issues since so I think I'll just stick with this.
I dont see why the faults team are needing to discuss a fault with me when this isnt exactly a fault, the hub is working as expected, i.e channel hopping is supposed to happen, but this hub is dumb and picks the most congested channel so I just wanted the feature switched off so I can permanently set the channel myself.
If someone calls me on REMOVED then I will talk it through but I've not had any missed calls so far.

Nope, no one has tried to contact me, can someone phone me on the number I provided the other day? They are probably trying to contact me on the mobile number thats on my account but its not working just now.

Hi @kirkyboy4
Our faults escalation team have advised that they have been trying to contact you to discuss this fault.

Morning,
Can I just check, have you been contacted by our Faults Escalation Team since our last post?
Thanks

Hi kirkyboy4
I've just fed this back to the team now to look at.
on 14-05-2024 04:51 PM
Thanks, it happened again today. There are almost 9 different hubs in my area all sitting on channel 36, I use a Wi-Fi analyzer app to detect which channels are the least congested, channels 149-161 are still within the 8 channel plan (36-48, 149-161) yet the hub always seems to channel hop back onto channel 36, the most congested channel of them all. Makes no sense. if someone can update me here once Wifi optimization is turned off that would be ideal. Thanks.

Hi kirkyboy4
I have passed your contact number to our faults escalation team.
Thanks

Thanks get them to call me if they need to onREMOVED as my usual number is unavailable temporarily, or if they can just turn that off then someone update me here ta

Hi kirkyboy4
We can no longer switch this off. Our faults escalation team will contact you to discuss this further.
