I've returned from holiday to find the message Check Phone Line. There is no dialling tone. What do I need to do?

Hi Veralou53,
Latest line test is picking up a problem that requires that we raise this as a non-appointed task so I've raise this to Openreach, they'll investigate over the next 72 hours and may contact you directly if they need to access your home

Thanks

Thanks for trying that. To investigate further we'll need to arrange an engineer visit. If you'd like us to do this please let us know and we'll confirm some details with you

I’ve tried my neighbour’s handset in my phone socket and it just buzzes. The handset works fine in their socket

Hi @Veralou53
If you only have access to one handset, you can test that handset at a friend or neighbours house. If the phone is simply plugged in and has a clear dial tone, then that proves the handset is working as it should.
The reason we ask this, if we send an engineer and they connect a phone, and all is working, proving the handset is at fault, then they will charge you £75 for the call out. This is something we wish to avoid before we send an engineer to you.
Thanks
Karl.

Hi Veralou53,
Do you have access to another telephone that you can test with?

There isn’t a dialling tone just a buzzing sound even when it’s in the test socket.

Hi
Line tests show a possible loop fault near the premises - usually this is 2 wires close or touching.
Can you disconnect all equipment and just connect the phone only to the master socket or 'Test Socket' if you have one, and see if there is a dial tone.
Thanks
Karl.

Hi
Can you please update your Community Profile to include your
- Name
- TalkTalk Telephone number or Account number
- Alternative contact number
We'll then look into this further. Please do not post this information on this thread. Once you've updated your profile please post in your topic to confirm it's updated.
Thanks
Karl
